Does anyone have a confirmed match (FS, BS, Munsel, etc) for the bright blue used on RNZAF roundels in the 1950s? TIA David

It depends which aircraft it was used on. For example the first Mustang roundels applied when they came out of storage had house paint from Dominion Paints applied because there was no aviation paint in the blue in the country. It was not up to the job and faded quickly, hence the reason you see decals of the Auckland roundels in light blue. It had originally looked like the dark blue and was matched as closely as housepaint could be, but it faded.
For an exact confirmation I would email the RNZAF Museum and ask for their resident Safety and Surface man Barf to supply details. The man who painted the Mustang roundels, Bill Fitzharding-Jones, is still a volunteer at the museum and Barf has got the details from him.
As for other aircraft, I don't know but suspect a similar situation with the paint shortage and substitution might have applied.
