Given the we are not that many months out from Omaka, I was wondering which members might be attending and what plans they might have for the event.
I personally have nothing definite planned yet other than going, but I thought it would be useful to have a planning thread for travel and a forum meet on the days.

A mate and I are driving down (from Auckland), and probably heading over to the West Coast for a few days afterwards. Accommodation is sorted in Picton (cheap via work) from the Wednesday. We have Gold Passes, although Mike is more interested in the re-enactors!
Potential space for another driver (Mike doesn't drive), although I should sound out a couple of friends first.

I will definitely be there (I have been at every one since the airshow started in 2001). Travel on the Interislander across Cook Strait is booked, accommodation (in Picton) has been booked for several months, Gold Passes ordered (for a group of seven of us) and paid for, and a two-week holiday following the airshow visiting Lake Tekapo, Wanaka, Queenstown, Milford Sound and Mount Cook all organised (including all accommodation and lots of activities). However, I won't be in attendance at Omaka on the Friday this time as we are crossing Cook Strait on an afternoon sailing on Good Friday.
I will be in my usual spot in the Gold Pass grandstand from early on Saturday morning (as soon as the Gold Pass enclosure opens). If you head through from the hospitality marquee in the Gold Pass enclosure to the front of the grandstand, I will be in the top (back) row at the top of the first set of stairs, just where I always am. Head up there and ask around for Bruce. If there are other blokes in the vicinity with that name, ask which one of them drives Wairarapa train services and you will soon suss out which one is me.
See y'all there.... ;D

I'd bloody well better be there! I won't be hard to spot - covered in oil and grease, carrying a dirty rag and a step ladder. It would seem only right that there is a forum meet at the Bristol at some point over the weekend. Many people have shown an interest in the Bristol reactivation project and have given a lot of support. I can't see why there shouldn't be a battery cart nearby and a reason for us all to be airside after the show (BEFORE the bar opens!!!!) to enjoy a ground run. It has been important to me that the cockpit is as full as I can get it when I have had the need to run one or both engines. In fact I haven't yet run an engine by myself. I have had a huge reward from talking others who have sufficient understanding of what they are doing to sit in the seat and start her for me. Wayne Tantrum (Antique Aero Engineering LTD), Marty Nicholl (my right hand man), Brian Morland (Friends of Bristol committee since 1986), Allan Graham (former SAFE Air pilot and who was spotted in a capsized yacht by the crew of ZK-CPT in Cook Strait) and Kevin Wilkey (Marlborough Aero Club CFI) have had the honours so far ZK-CPT is the embodiment of the phrase 'the more the merrier!'. When we have had public events, we have been mindful of the need for some sort of fence or barrier to keep everything safe. When there are (only) serious enthusiasts nearby, there is no fence and if we trust peoples common sense, we can stand as close to her as is sensible and safe. As I have done in the past, when trying to thank those that have assisted in the project, I leave the crew trapdoor open. This is a safe and easy way for people to come and go from the cabin and cockpit and enjoy the noise. I know in advance, that you guys will love it! There is a difference between music and noise. Music is enjoyable sound. Noise is unpleasant or unwanted sound. The sound of a Bristol Freighter is a puzzling mix of music and noise that is hard to describe. Gavin Conroy described it as a sound that you can feel through the ground and when Wayne ran her for me, I felt exactly that. When Allan Udy videotaped her from belly-level during my first ever engine start, he said the same thing - it rattled his ribs. That's what piston engines and 14 foot props are all about eh?
See you at Omaka 2009!!!

I'll also be there. As usual I will be camping at the Top 10. If there is a forum meeting organised I thought I would bring some of Barrie's photos and log books...Would that be of interest?

God its that time already? ? Jeez i'll bet trying to find somewhere to stay in Blenheim will be nigh on impossible? I know Al how about a bed in the Bristol? I promise no clandestine engine runs ha ha. Seriously though I'd be keen to go, I'll have to put my planning hat on (translation: put down beer and consult calender/wife/bank account ;D) Plus it would be nice to meet you guys and talk planes planes planes!! It is in my mind to try and get down there, I would hope to bring CKE with me. However that will be entirely subject to the whims of the "Get it flying" gremlins and whether or not it will have clocked up enough test hours by then.

Regarding accommodation, when i went to the last one the Marlborough Car Club right next door allowed people to tent and campervan on their land. I stayed there the entire weekend in a tent, and never went off the airport complex for five days. It was the best accommodation I've ever had for an airshow in terms of handiness. The possums trying to get into my tent wasn't so nice though. But check it out. I don't know the price, i was working for the airshow DVD team so had the fee waivered. But from memory it was pretty cheap, and you meet a number of interesting die hard airshow types too there.

I'll be there, am heading down from Auckland with a convoy of MG's from the Auckland MG club, and staying in Blenheim. Al I can't wait to hear the Bristol running after reading about it for so long - last Classic Fighters I crawled through the Bristol and the thought of seeing her "live" is excellent. How about a forum meet around the Bristol some time?
