You know, I've got to be honest...the Me108 display scared the pants off me - low level + low energy + high angles of bank = high risk...and I'm not sure that 2 POB was a good look!

Thank goodness for you guys taking photos. My camera was not up to the task, and even shots of aeroplanes on the ground are not good due to the brightness and glare and hard shadows. I've seriously not seen such weather ever on a visit to Ardmore before. It was really nice but hard on my ever reddening skin (so much for the Cancer Society's crappy sunscreen... two thick coats did nothing)

Weather gods were definitely smiling. A good day and great to catch up with some fellow forumites, albeit I arrived over an hour after the designated meeting time. Thanks also to Simon and the Thunder Mustang team for somewhere to rest our weary bones Only down side to the day for me was having to drive to Ardmore instead of flying. Cheers, Stu.

Apart from the problem with the Spit it was an excellent show... errr... practice. ;D It was great to finally put faces to the forum names. And thanks to the Thunder Mustang people for sheltering us from the sun and the fluro-nazi's.

It was indeed a great display, fortunately we managed to find somewhere where we could see some of it.... although a great day and well organised, one does have to question the value of a (practice) display where due to side clearance requirements, the main crowd area has to look over two rows a large hangars to see anything. The attitude of the fluoro Nazis could do with a slight tweak too. Of course you are going to have to constantly tell people to move - its that human nature of actually wanting to see the things you have come to see..... its just can it be done in a better way? it doesnt do the image of Warbirds a lot of good.

Come on guys, I think it isn't right to call the marshalls Nazis. They were doing their job, volunteerily too, to ensure that safety regulations are in place and adhered to. Some of them may have been a little more officious or bumptious than others, but it's not right to call them Nazis for ensuring that members of the public who strayed over the tape were asked to go back.
I do agree with the general concencus however that the crowdline was in a very odd place for a public open day flying display. The marshall who asked us to leave the area near the runway said that last year there was chaos with members of the public all over the place, walking across taxiways etc and forcing the Warbirds to pull back the crowdline. Interesting as when I was there last year for the December show it was pelting down with solid rain, there was no flying and no public. Did they have a second display last year?
In the past at Ardmore for public events the crowdline has been set up on the other side of the main runways so there's a view unimpeded by hangars. I guess as this was technically just a practice day that sort of effort wasn't gone to. This is not meant as a criticism, just an opbservation. We had a great view of the show from down by the Auckland Aero Club.

Great day. We capped it off by going for a fly to Waihi Beach for a milkshake and back via Whitianga. Ardmore was a busy place! Thunder Mustang, kid, hotdog and ginger beer, what could be better? Then there's the real thing The Trojan is HUGE! Discovered this in my hangar. Wasn't there last Saturday so someones been very busy. A guy that poked a look while our door was open said it weighs about 900kg and the chevy v8 puts out about 400hp. Not bad power to weight ratio.

Great shots, guys, and thanks for sharing. My goodness - the Thunder Mustang hangar is as immaculately presented as the Thunder Mustang is its self.

Boy you guys are quick, loads of good photos there. Thanks again Colin for your help and to Simon for his hospitality. Great day out and will post some pics some time, sun was a bit of a pain at times (Only for the camera, would much rather have a great day like that to watch the planes) so sitting back watching most of it seemed to be the way to go but some air 2 air photos coming soon. Was great to meet some of the forum members as well.
