The Handley Page Hampden bomber that has been on display at the Canadian Museum of Flight has sadly been badly damaged by a snow storm. It is the only complete Hampton in the world, and the storm has caused the port wing to break off and the aircraft to collapse. Shouldn't that read HP Hampden rather than Hampton?

Thanks for the heads-up Dave, but after all the work that went into the HAMPDEN I'm not so sure I want to see more. Terrible news, I just hope no-one was hurt! Planes can be replaced/repaired.....

Certainly bit of bad luck on the part of the museum, and a great pity happening to a very rare aircraft type. The Museum has done a brilliant job with its restoration considering what they started out with, but as with most non-profit organisations trying to raise funds to adequately house and display valuable and rare exhibits is a constant challenge. Hopefully they will be successful restoring her back to her former glory and they will ultimately raise the necssary funding to get her under cover for the benfit of future generations.
It is a co-incidence that I am presently researching the Hampden, especially the Canadian T.B.1 modified version which is the type saw service in 489 Squadron RNZAF - this aircraft is an example of this version. I am trying to track down drawings and/or photographs relating to the modifications undertaken to the bomb bay doors to allow the carrying of the British 18 inch torpedo internally. This would be a great help to enable me to modify the FM 1/48 kit of the Hampden to represent a 489 Squadron Hampden AN127 Y-XA.
Although the photographs on WIX and the Museum are a great help if anyone has any photos looking closely at the rear of the bomb bay doors and lower fuselage showing where the modified bomb bay doors appear to hang lower than the bottom of the rear fuselage line I would be very interested to view and if possible obtain copies.
