A quick half hour scenic flight last Sunday from North Shore to Waiwera via Orewa and a quick peek at the new northern motorway tunnels on the way back. A bit bumpy in places but thoroughly enjoyed by my passenger, even when he vocally found religion thanks to a max rate 180 o turn ... advance warning given ;D Hmmm ... still some work to go on getting rid of those emergency back-up chins Cheers, Stu.

Yep, Robin TZG. I have to admit that I'm definitely a convert to bubble canopies, the view is fantastic (apart from under the wing) and, in the case of the Robin, they provide a very spacious feeling in a small cockpit. Cheers, Stu.

Luvved the music as well Stu. Originally the video was cut to fit a different music track that I grew to hate while editing so I changed the song to "Send me on my way" by "Rusted Root" once I'd finished. This track was a couple of minutes longer than the original hence the fade. Interestingly, after loading the video on Youtube I received the following email ... Your video "NZNE - Orewa - Waiwera - NZNE." has been identified by YouTube's Content Identification programme as containing copyrighted content which UMG claims is theirs.
Your video "NZNE - Orewa - Waiwera - NZNE." is still available because UMG does not object to this content appearing on YouTube at this time. As long as UMG has a claim on your video, they will receive public statistics about your video, such as number of views. Viewers may also see advertising on your video's page.No major problems then. However, I subsequently re-edited the video to the full duration of the music track and on uploading got this email ... Video Disabled
A copyright owner has claimed it owns some or all of the audio content in your video Sunday Scenic Flight. The audio content identified in your video is Send Me On My Way by Party of Five. We regret to inform you that your video has been blocked from playback, due to a music rights issue.umm ... same music track that was cleared by UMG before and who the heck is Party of Five??!! End result, another music track, another upload and all seems to be working.

Nice video Stu, makes me want to head up that way again. Purely out of interest, do you have any idea what sort of G force the Robin pulls in a max rate turn?

Purely out of interest, do you have any idea what sort of G force the Robin pulls in a max rate turn? Nothing too dramatic - probably only a couple of G. I've managed almost 4g in the CT4 and that felt a lot more than what the Robin pulls during a turn. The flight in the video is my "Standard half hour scenic" route but I do like to give those in the right seat a couple of extras ... kind of a way of getting out of the airliner mode of thinking about flying (if you follow my logic). Also a chance for me to have a bit of fun. Not having an aerobatic rating yet I've found that a max rate turn is a good way to add a bit of spice (safely) when giving joyrides to people, but only if they are happy to try it. The Robin can be banked to 60 o before gravity suggests you stop playing silly buggers and the aircraft drops into a spiral dive. With this in mind I'll normally use full power and a bank angle of around 50 o. Lots of noise, an unusual angle and a couple of G, normally impresses ;D In this most recent flight, the comment I received was to the effect of how such a turn really illustrates how aircraft can use 3 dimensions at once. The other "standard" manoeuvre on such flights is a sideslip near Orewa. "If you look out to the left you'll see Orewa ... hang on, I'll give you a better view" ... right rudder, left wing down. In the video there is a shot of Orewa just as I bring the aircraft out of the sideslip. Cheers, Stu.

That's a nice clip, Stu, and it's great to see you are having such a good time in the air.

Hah, yes I've done the old joyride maxrate a few times too, although in a 172 it's not particularly exciting, although I suppose that's relative if the passenger has never been in a light aircraft before.
