Marlborough's first auction of old vehicles and aeroplanes has created quite a stir among potential bidders.
The Wings and Vehicle Collectable Auction at Omaka Heritage Centre, Blenheim, on Saturday will feature a number of veteran aeroplanes, automobiles, motorbikes, a hot-air balloon, a glider and even an antique petrol pump.
Event organiser and auctioneer Trevor Lummis said his email had overflowed with inquiries from New Zealand, Australia and America.
He had held automobile auctions before, but this would be his first aircraft auction.
The auction was being held in Blenheim because it was central and people could fly in from out of town.
The star automobile attractions would be a 1930 Model Ford A Coup and a 1934 Willys 77 four door saloon.
"Being a Model A Coup convertible makes the Ford really desirable," Mr Lummis said.
"It also has a B4 Model A sports motor in it, so it keeps up with modern vehicles and is really quite fast.
"The Willy 77 is just a rare vehicle and is bound to attract plenty of interest."
Vehicles from Duncan Rutherford's well-known car collection had also been made available by his family following his death last year, he said.
Heritage centre trustee Graham Orphan said he thought the auction was the first of its kind in Marlborough. If the show was successful there could be another auction in conjunction with the Omaka Classic Fighters AirShow 2009 at Easter.
As an aviation enthusiast Mr Orphan was most excited by the sale of a Sabre Jet 86F.
"It's an iconic thing from the Korean war era."
It was Australian built, but it looked just like the American Sabre 86F, he said.
It had been restored as a static display and could be restored to fly. "Not everyone has the bank account to be able to feed kerosene into one of those so it will fly. But it's all there and it's in good condition," said Mr Orphan.
The auction will run from 3pm on Saturday at the Omaka Aviation Heritage Centre.
