The VC-1 paint scheme shown is from the early 1970s to mid 70s. Because their main task was to act as targets or tow targets for the Fleet on the way to Vietnam out of Hawaii, the VC-1 aircraft were more brightly painted than other USN Squadron Skyhawks of that era. Later paint schemes changed to reflect the changing fleet paint schemes. Their role was similar to the later No.2 Sqdn RNZAF Fleet Support role out of NAS Nowra but of course the tactics of the times and weapons systems and Fleet target requirements had changed by then.

And only 7 or 8 years after the single seater was released! I'd hate to have just shelled out for the Classic Airframes model right now ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png) Still, CA proved that the market exists, which may have had an influence in Hasegawa finally releasing the thing. Wonder what it will sell for?

Dooh, I got sick of waiting for Hasegawa and have just bought a Classic Airframes T-bird off Calum! But I must say that I am very impressed with it, especially all the variant and decal options. It will be interesting to compare the two.

I held off getting the CA TA for that reason. I did mention to everyone that this was imminent... glad you all took notice. That was also one of the reasons I shelved my Monogram/Hasegawa kit bash. Still, the 150 gallon drop tanks will need to be used. Might have to finish the Monogram/Hasegawa kitbash as an OA-4M now.

I thought as illustrated the tail was wrong for an RNZAF machine, except 55 and 56 post transfer from RAN and pre-Kahu. ![:(](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/sad.png) I fell for the same trap with my CA kit. Love to be proved wrong.

Yes it is, but how hard is it to add a square of styrene to the fintip and square it off?

As hard as you make it? Dunno sorry.

As far as conversions go that involve surgery, the fin tip modification is about the simplest and easiest I can think of.
I suspect it will be a moot point anyway. The single seat E/F kit was released with the option for a square fin, most likely so an Israeli A-4H could be modelled (although a K boxing was produced). Given Hasegawas tendency for multiple versions, I wouldn't be surprised if a TA-4H was planned and the optional fin retained.
There is some speculation that Hasegawa isn't moulding an entirely new fuselage, just the nose and instructions on where to cut up the single seat fuselage. I hope this isn't the case, but if it were the fin option would be guaranteed since all the required parts are on the same sprue.

IIRC the A-4 family comes with alternative fin tops and I guess that if the the new issue nose is just a cut and fit that'll be fine. Lets hope thats the case.
Any way it'll be eaier than then the Hasegawa Fujimi kit bash and the modified Monogram two seaters I already have.

Pity they won't fix the step in the wings where the slats go.
Still I'm sure it'll be easier to build than teh CA kit. Mind you I'm keeping them as well for USN/USMC adversary builds
