amazing, albiet somewhat sad, photos. Those 2 catalina shots look like the location could even be Rukuhia (the grass and fences look a bit scrappy to be Hobsonville!)

Yes some of the Catalina fuselages came to Rukuhia for melting down, didn't they?
Is that one marked as TAINUI one of the original four RNZAF Sunderlands?

Yes i have often thought the two photos of the Catalina's were taken at Rukuhia. I have been trying to compare the truck with other photos taken at Rukuhia with trucks in them.

Sad sight indeed. 'Tainui' was the Mk III Sunderland NZ4101. It was meant to go to NAC as ZK-AMJ in 1947, but this never happened. Scrapped at Hobsonville late 1949, but not actually written off the Air Department books until 16December1957!
