I found this very nice photo of a Fairey Gordon at Wigram on the National Library's Timeframes website: I liked it so much i thought it might look nice with some colour, so I've done this in photoshop:

I've also added a little colour to this photo from the same source of an RAF Liberator at Whenuapai in 1944 or 45, as part of the RAF's transport service to Canada and the UK.

Nice shots, I can give it a go. Not all are easy to get to take the colour.

Well, I have given this one a go. Not perfect but the photo was not 100% clear to start with which makes it difficult.

Dave, that's a great photo of the Gordon. I'm interested to see the handgrips on the upper wings. I wonder if they are built as a common item that can be fitted upper and lower and all the extras attached as necessary.
Strikemaster elevators can be fitted either left or right depending on what is needed.....

Very good point about the wing handgrips. The upper and lower wings do look the same, perhaps they were interchangable.

Well those were certainly real challenges that you set there Marcus. I'm not entirely happy with either, the Vildebeest shot was especially difficult as it has so much in it and is a but vague on definition in the background (ie hazy), so the result is what I'd term an artist's impression I guess.

I liked them Dave. In fact it makes me want to get Photoshop and see what I can do with it!

Dave, they're pretty good efforts, mate - pity the subjects aren't a bit more interesting - like Corsairs! ;D Just kidding!!! I really like the Fairy Gordon image - in colour or black and white it is a terrific image. Weren't the Fairy Gordons ex-RN aircraft; because I wonder if the handholds on the wings aren't something added to make deck handling somewhat easier? Not that I'd like to try and manhandle one of those monsters around a pitching deck!

No the Gordons were ex-RAF, you'll be thnking of the Baffins which were ex-FAA.

Dave - it's James here - we met last October when I came down to visit you in Cambridge in relation your GR squadrons book.
We have finally got a computer at home, so after reading the forum for the last couple of years, I can finally participate! What a great picture of a Fairey Gordon!
Regards, JamesM

That's odd, Marcus's post with the two photos he challenged me to colour has disappeared.
