Whilst at Great Plains this weekend we had a chance to see (and contribute to) the Ashburton aviation Museum's great new Hangar. Proceeds from the raffles at last January's forum meet went partly to this project, so I thought I'd post some pics of the great things going on here. Funding is still required to get the doors on to complete stage 1, but hopefully our SAA weekend has helped the Museum on a bit. The new hangar is huge, and will eventually accomodate DC3 ZK-AMY and other key aircraft in the collection. the local airworthy Devon is currently in residence The 2 seat vampire is at last in a position suitable to photograph, along with the Cropmaster the Single seat Vampire and Harvard likewise enjoy increased space everyones Favourite! Pride of place goes to the Harrier (taken outside for better viewing on a nice day) The "office" looks more comfortable, but substantially more complex than the Jodel D11 I arrived in! The Friendship is also looking very tidy, although still missing some bits (and with a somewhat odd undercarriage) this brings back some memories! I also visited the Aviation Heritage Centre at Omaka on the way back (The cafe was open - and air conditioned!) but Pictures of that have been posted elsewhere in the past, so I'll save my upload bandwidth at this stage - very good museum though!

Good to see the F-27 looking a lot better than when I last saw it. Next time I'm down that way I'll have to pay the Harrier a visit too I think, the last time I saw one of them was at Air Expo '92 when I was 4 years old, so don't remember it too well!
Am I mistaken, or do they also have a Viscount (or part of one) down there?

the Viscount is at Ferrymead. they have a nice model of one at Ashburton, and an RDa7 Dart engine (which the F27 also used) but no real viscount bits.
