There was the 747 200 at the 1992 airshow that only managed to get the max performance take off part of its display done plus a 747 400 at Ardmore airshow 2002?

I definately recall seeing a 747 do more of a display tahn just take off on the Sunday, it was very awesome. But it was small compared with the Antonov that dropped the hundreds of parachutists.

Fairly sure that it wasnt an Antonov at the 92 show (and at Ohakea sometime after that)- it was an Ilyushin (have I spelt that right?) Il-76 which is smaller than a 747 and more C-141 Starlifter size..plus a RAAF C-17 was at WOW 2008.

True re: Anotonov - IL76 at Air expo 92 it was this IL76: www.kiwiaircraftimages.com/pages/a92il76.htmlNext appearance was Ohakea wings & wheels 93 were it also threw a heap of parachutist out the rear. I think the guy that had them down here on lease or contract was done for fraud or something like that around 93-95? in regards to the IL76s. RE: ANZ 747-200 Display it was seen Practiseing over manukau harbour - heap of turns - gear down etc but the actual display at Alk airport was canned - the reason given was that the display slot time was missed due to ATC holding it over the harbour due commercial traffic taking off and landing at the airport or something to that effect and the show had to move on or something like that. 747-400 display ardmore 2002: the brother in law was working catering at that one & reckoned that it was an awesome display that is from a from a non aviation minded point of view. the other overseas attractions for Air Expo 92 were the Beriev A40 Albatross www.kiwiaircraftimages.com/pages/a92bes1.htmland the Harrier GR3 which put of 4 displays over the 2 days and was transported to NZ on one of the IL76s: www.kiwiaircraftimages.com/pages/a92gr3a1.htmlRAAF C-130E Hercules & Franch Navy Dassualt Falcon may of been some more internationals can't remember if their were or not.

I take it there will be huge security around this C17 when it is parked overnight.
No young hooligans with spray cans of paint making a mess or the skyhawk sale will be going on when Sue Bradford makes prime minister

On the other hand, might be your last chance to see an F-111. I'm sure the Hornets will come for an airshow here eventually.

That's what they said when i went to Wanaka in 2006, and then when I went to Whenuapai in 2007. And they're still going. Would be great to see one again though.
