Here are a few photos taken from the recent trip to Ardmore. Many thanks to Les Marshall for bringing your lovely Ryan along and the aeroplane looked great on that lovely summers day. I have more shots of it at the link below: capphotography.ifp3.com/#/gallery/radial-ryan-air-2-air/

That's a beautiful plane - really obvious from the spotlessness of that polished metal that it's well cared for.

Nice photo's Gavin of a really pretty aeroplane. Sort of reminds me of a Stearman with the top wing removed. That undercarriage almost looks like Mr Bristol helped design it, its so sturdy and complicated! ;D Baz

I find the main gear intregueing , its a leading link design that provides a mechanical anti-dive effect under brakes , but will still travel well over bumps . Its a lot like an oldish honda step thru . Must have been pretty advanced in its day .

A lovely set of photos Gavin, thanks. Does anyone know what happened to the inline engined Ryan that was being repaired after it's engine failure a few years back? Last I heard it was being refitted with a new engine and was nearly completed. Belongs to MOTAT I think?

Do you mean this one Joe? If so, I believe it hasn't flown yet, but getting there. That photo was at the Ardmore Open Day last year when it was on static display.

That second Ryan is ZK-BEM, it's been in NZ since 1954. Gradually lapsed into disuse, presented to MoTAT in 1967 with the stipulation that when it was restored it was to be restored to flying (not display) condition. This work was carried out, and it flew again 13Dec98.
