Hey guys Carmel J Attard, a master modeller from Malta normally sticks to vacform models of very esoteric subjects, has completed a Hasegawa 1:32 A-4E/F as NZ6201 of 2 Squadron: www.modelingmadness.com/reviews/viet/us/attarda4k.htmAlways good to see a Kiwi machine over at MM Just thought some of you may like to see it.

He's got his dates a bit muddled up, but you can't really blame an overseas modeller for that. It looks good! A-4's in gull grey over white bore me stupid . I really like the pic of the model towering over its 1/72 cousins. Anyone know what the surface detail is like on that kit? There isn't much evident in the pictures.

I've got it partly done (has been like that for 13 years!). The detail is raised, but it's a really nice kit.

Now how did I know we'd be "treated" to an RAN aircraft in this thread?

Didn't mean to cause any offense FN, but when you every other A-4 model you see on line is in that scheme it gets a little samey . The RAN A-4 looked much more distinctive (and meaner) when it was painted like this: www.airliners.net/photo/Australia---Navy/McDonnell-Douglas-A-4G/0731147/M/Besides, being raised on the colourful local variety of A-4 makes it harder for other schemes to compete for interest. Would have been nice to see ours in the gunship grey that everything else is painted in these days. Never quite understood how overall leaf green related to a mostly maritime tasking.

mumbles, no offense taken (What? Me Worry?). Understand about the same same grey. Despite some comments on this forum the dull grey with white under was excellent in the original 'poor man fighter role' our A4G had. Even looking from above over white caps the A4G was difficult to spot. Jungle or land ops were a different matter however. Once the carrier was gone it made sense to change to a more versatile scheme as seen in the excellent John Bartels photo online.
Paint is relatively easy to apply for a quick change if op area changes. Any dull colour is difficult to see over sea conditions. GLINTING PAINT or any glint is always bad for visual pickup before the aircraft itself is seen.
