Here is the first shot from the Air 2 Air flight with this very historic aircraft following its 8 1/2 year restoration. Their is a great story covering the history of the Spartan in the latest Classic Wings magazine. More to follow. i56.photobucket.com/albums/g173/gavsgt/blog pics/1495783.jpg[/IMG]

That is such a beautiful aircraft, and your photo is perfect Gavin!
I enjoyed the article too. I was surprised to see how spacious the front cockpit opening looks, could you fit two people in there or is there an obstruction inside?

It is a magnificent aircraft and Bob has restored it beautifully. It has real Character. Everyone at Ashburton who saw it loved it - especially the exposed valve rockers on the engine (a converted gypsy major turned upside /rightway up) which you can see operating! It has all manner of nifty design features and little eccentricities (sometimes the same thing...) The photo really does it justice, Nice work Gavin.

Great photo Gavin. Who was flying the Spartan? I worked for Bob for a short time back in the 80's and helped him rebuild a Gypsy major for a customer's Tigermoth. It was a pleasure seeing a master craftsman at work. He has certainly done a fine job with this one! Baz ;D

Anyone know how the auction for ZK-ABK turned out? I see CAA still have it registered to McGarry.

As far as I am aware it was passed in.
As to the seating config, yes it will take 2 up front but as I understand this has been limited to 1 due to weight and balance problems (I could be wrong here).

It was nice to see this aircraft up close at Omaka, what a lovely machine. I saw it being started and taxiing and its engine sound amazing, it just purrs. But I never got to see it flying sadly.

As far as I am aware it was passed in. Yes, that seems to have been the outcome. Tiger Moth ZK-BLM is listed as passed in as well. Pity my $15.00 bid didn't make the cut. There seems to be a small group of really interesting aircraft that never seems to make it any public showings and that remain hidden away - from my gaze anyway. DH60G Moth ZK-ADT and the Spartan II ZK-ARH are two of these elusive beasts. I do hope to catch with with ZK-ABK in the flesh at some stage.
