I have received some questions from Mr Clyde Fletcher via email and am unable to help. Here is his email. I wonder if anyone else here can assist? I have pointed him towards the Air Force Museum's email, but maybe someone here knows?
Hi, I am researching my father’s war effort starting with his diary and service record. My father served in the RNZAF ground crew during WW2 and started in Recruitment Training School (RTS) Harewood. I am writing a commentary for his children (of which I am the youngest), grand children and great grand children about his service in NZ and in the Pacific and have a few questions:
- His service record states the following under Harewood: “Unit RYS / No. 1 GSO”. Do you know what this means?
- Dad was given 'Air Pamphlet 6' outlining the particulars of enlistment etc. Do you know where I can get a copy of this?
Any assistance or direction would be valuable.
Regards,
Clyde Fletcher
I think that No. 1 GSO is perhaps No. 1 General Service Order, is it not? Not sure on the other part. And I have never seen that pamphlet. Thanks.
