Recently I had a trip to the UK and had the opportunity to have a walk around the airworthy Vulcan . I was surprised by its size , ok there is no way you could describe this as a small aircraft but in my mind I had believed it to be considerably bigger than it was . at a guess it seemed the size of a 737 . This aircraft has been brought back to airworthy status by a small dedicated crew over the last few years . She has had most of her redundant military equipment removed making her 13 tons lighter , 4 tons of that was wiring . A large slab of steel plates mounted in the nose restored the c/g after the radar etc had been taken out . This aircaft is hangared at Bruntingthorpe an airfield which is also home to thirty odd other aircraft including a Comet , Guppy , Victor , 747 , Sea Vixen being brought back to life , a couple of live Lightnings , a couple of Buccaneers and Jet Provosts , a Jaguar , and a collection of cockpits .
