.................is supposed to make its first flight this week. ;D Weather permitting of course. Further good news is that it does NOT have a sharks mouth.

Huge chunk of flyable P40's around the world must be from Pioneer.

It's gonna be a big week if this P-40N and the P-40F across the Tasman both make their first flights.

Is that Judy Pays P40F? That'll be the only Merlin powered P40 extant, won't it?

The only airworthy within a week Merlin-powered P-40 extant Stephen Grey has a P-40F-10 being rebuilt in Oz, another P-40F is being restored in NZ albeit to static as an E, and a museum in Italy has a P-40L. And yes, it is Judy Pay's F Looking forward to the VWoC N flying, great news! Congrats to the Pioneer team!

Just a correction Zac, the RNZAF Museum's P-40E is being rebuilt to airworthy condition. It just won't fly in their ownership. That's why it is taking so long compared to a static restoration.

What else are they working on these days? They currently have NZ1052 in for a touch-up, some parts for various aircraft, a Jaguar XK150 Le Mans replica as well as the P-40 that is about to go out the door. Once this P-40 is done there is a couple of interesting projects waiting in the wings. ..........and by the way, here's a teaser.

Huge chunk of flyable P40's around the world must be from Pioneer. This is their 8th airworthy P-40 restoration. P-40E NZ3009 - 1997 (in conjunction with AvSpecs) P-40N-1 A29-448 Currawong - 2000 P-40K 42-9733 - 2000 (ex Alpine ZK-PXL) P-40E AK940 - 2002 (in conjunction with AvSpecs) P-40E 41-35927 - 2003 (in conjunction with AvSpecs) P-40N-1 NZ3125 - 2006 P-40N-5 42-105526 - 2007 P-40N 42-104287 - 2009 Also worthy of noting is that Pioneer restored the wings for Judy Pays P-40F, this will be a special week for them. Sort of P-40, the wings for the airworthy Hawk-75 were done by Pioneer. Other aircraft restored by Pioneer.............. LA-9 Yak-3 Ex Air America Pilatus Porter Assembled and renovated................ P-51D 44-13016 Dove of Peace Big chunks restored for.............. Lockheed 10A Electra Repair work............. Harvard NZ1052 Harvard NZ1053 Ryan STM ......and nameless others. What these guys have achieved is quite simply amazing and their workmanship is second to none.

Thanks Dave - was unaware of that! Hmm.....hows about we trade a fibreglass P-40 for their one and we fly it.....?

It's going to Canada, not the USA, so the mandatory ugly paint job isn't required.

Ive got to be honest , and say I like the teeth . To me it seems to break up the matt green , that seems to be the primary colour of most every P40 ( running for cover now ! )

Hi all, I trust the proposed 'first' flight today (22Apr) did not take place? It was hoped the aircraft would fly early afternoon but this didn't occur although a tanker was present at 4pm along with the test pilot, Frank Parker. I guess night fell before it took to the air. The Catalina was beating the circuit though!

It would have been great if both P-40's had made first flights on the same day, given that Pioneer were involved in both restorations.

Looking forward to hearing the news she's flown! I must say that I prefer P-40 schemes minus teeth, as I'm a major fan of the RNZAF hawks, which I think never wore them. But I agree that yeah, sometimes it does look pretty snazzy
