Hi everyone, Today I went up to Mercer to do some more on the Taylorcraft project I'm pottering with, however Russ and I decided to pop in to see an "all comers" fly in (largely SAA Auckland and microlight guys) at Cliff Bellingham's Airstrip near Glenbrook, on the southern shores of the Manukau Harbour. despite being highly frustrated that neither of us had an aircraft ready to take, we drove there anyway. I found it was great to catch up with my SAA mates from the northern chapters, and there was a great turn out of about 15 aircraft. (A great day for converting avgas to fun...). Following are some pics from the morning:
Classic aircraft certainly were in attendance, 3 Tiger Moths (these 2 would be some of the nicest examples anywhere...) Piper Pacer and a PA18 cub, along with many newer machines.
A couple of Classics - Pacer PAT and Neville Hay's Morgan sportscar:
the Third Tiger
Resident PA18A-150 cub BOX is significant to me, as I looked after it during my trade training days at Gulf Aero - I learned fabric repairs on this aircraft. sometime later it suffered a major accident and has since been beautifully restored
Looking down the row of visiting aircraft:
the TH1 "stealth is a one - off own design loosely based on a P51 Mustang outline, and although a little rough, oozes character. It is powered by a Turbocharged EA81 Subaru. It came down from Dargaville for the morning.
The Aircam twin (yes, 2 Rotaxes!) came over from Waiheke Island, but spent a lot of time flying sedately around the local patch.
Tigers...
Most aircraft departed for other locations just before lunch, and we then headed back to Mercer to do more work on the Taylorcraft. Nice Morning all told... (but gotta get a serviceable aircraft real soon!)
