I would think visiting a historic site ( for the sake of history only ,) would be a major plus ! (so to prove we were there ) . Debris considerations , would be nil ( landing on a big rock would be worse ) . But as alanw says , they would not want to mess with " the cow who jumped over the moon " s , flight path .

I don't think they should be allowed to build anything there. Next with Branson's space tourists, they'll have a mall up there for them with Starbucks and McDonalds... where will it all end?

Something that is leading the news lately is the debate over the upcoming referendum to see whether New Zealanders support or don't support Sue Bradford's anti-smacking bill.
Remember when she was forcing it through, the media were very biased against it and raising the public's heckles so we all realised what was going on and the media seemed to be envoking a revolt against it. Now that it's in and we have a chance of voting it out, all the media seems intent on promoting is the politicians saying what a waste of time and money it is. They've forgotten the issues. It's now all down to money.... Of course Politicians think a referendum is a bad thing, because they don't want to be told how to run the country by the people who pay them to do so, that's far too democratic.
All this bullshit the politicians are spouting that the referendum is a waste of $9 million makes me laugh. They would waste that amount every week in Parliament and Governmental offices on things much more trivial. Have they stopped to consider that the reason a huge amount of people are against the bill is because it forces good, innocent people to face a court case and possible incarceration for giving a kid a slight tap or slap on the hand or a flick on the ear. They said it wouldn't but already that's been proven wrong.
They need to realise that just a couple of these cases of innocent parents being hauled through the court system will quickly mount up past the $9 million mark that they say is being wasted - court fees, lawyer fees, all those expensive live TV link ups so some reporter can tell you the jury's not back yet, lost work man-hours of the defendants, the complainants and the juries, catering, hotel bills, and all the other expenses that surround any trial. The $9 million is a drop in the ocean and is for once a chance for New Zealanders to decide for themselves about a bill that was introduced to Parliament by a very stupid woman, who is a known criminal (how do people with records get into Parliament?!!), who was never elected to be there to represent New Zealanders, and has abused the system for years for her own gains. Bradford is the worst kind of politican, one who has raised to the top through militant radicalism and protesting against the law, and now feels she has the right to make the laws herself- she has no fricking idea of the average New Zealander's attitudes because she is far, far below average.
My opinion is list MP's should not be allowed to introduce bills, they're not elected to represent anyone, and why we even have them beggars belief. The most hated politician who gets no votes can still get in on a list. Ridiculous. It's a crock. We're meant to be having a referendum on whether MMP works - why is that not being done at the same time? That would save money, they could have tacked this anti-smacking quetion to the MMP referendum and saved the $9 million... raaaghhh!!

I would draw your attention to this statement:
You can talk about anything here that is considered to be of interest to other members and in keeping with the demeanour of the forum. [glow=red,2,300]No politics please.[/glow]

Fair enough Shorty, thanks for that. Sorry, I'm having a bad day. I burnt my pot of soup, and ruined it all. I then spilled soup down my trousers and onto my new shoes whilst emptying the burned soup into the compost heap. God knows how. Then whilst editing some footage the flipping power went off and I had to wait for ages to see how much work I've lost. That's just the highlights. I needed to vent. I will now shut the hell up. Sorry everyone. I reckon we should make you official moderator-moderator.

Dave, I recommend Watties 'Big 'N Hearty' soups/meals for your future lunches. Just heat in the microwave for 2 minutes (personally I find a total of two minutes and 10 seconds to be optimal) stirring once during cooking. No, mess, no washing up and the container is recyclable too.
Now back to your scheduled forum topic......
See it's just like the News, also with ad breaks lol ;-)

It was one of those Kings packets of dry ingredients that normally take about 90 minutes to cook, and I was stirring regularly as usual but it was a minestrone flavour that i haven't done before and didn't realise the pasta drops to the bottom and burns, about 50 minutes into cooking. It was all ruined, tasted like burned coffee beans. I'm usually a pretty good cook, but today lunch was a cup of coffee...

I sympathise as I had a similar problem cooking mushrooms recently - my wife is finally trusting me in the kitchen after the little episode with the salt 20 years ago, tsp does NOT mean tablespoon - important lesson, mushrooms in sauce does not involve adding all the ingredients at the same time and plentiful stirring didn't stop having to spend 20 minutes with 2 scourers the following day. Bit of a bugger as until then I'd been quite successful with my excursions into the kitchen I blame the news media ;D

Talk about plumbing the depths....tonight on TV3 there was a brief item about the Job Summit and how the Chairman of the summit Mark Weldon head honcho of the NZX was asking people to take it easy on the expectations of developments from the Summit and to take a longer term view. The headline shown on the screen at the back of the presenter read "Be pateint" - I kid you not......what happened to proof reading??? Even a spell checker would have picked it up but someone else should be proofreading this stuff. Not only is it the TV news it's in national newspapers and news websites......unacceptable!!

Not in any way trying to defend TV3, but by way of explanation the ridiculously expensive graphics equipment didn't come with a spell checker. Most times spelling errors are picked up somewhere along the line but with pressured graphics staff, time constraints, fast turn arounds and late changes etc, occasionally they slip through. Rest assured, spelling errors are taken seriously (to the point of some very colourful language in the control room at times) and the the nightly fault report dutifully records those that occur. Cheers, Stu

The funniest news graphic gaff I have seen was after Hurricane Katrina when George Bush was making a speech and had mentioned it was the greatest natural disaster in American history. The graphics department through up the quote below the picture of him speaking and it read (right under his face as he spoke so looking like a title rather than a quote) "George Bush: The Greatest Natural Disaster in American History." It was so funny, right on the button.

Fair enough Stu, maybe someone could lead a chanting session of the applicable rule "i before e except after c" (although there are a couple of exceptions)..... :-)

Last night I was looking at Teletext (which is run by TVNZ's news department) before going to bed, and saw an entry on there that made me livid due to its reporting, lack of decorum lack of concern for relatives and friends of the victim and general lack of common sense. So livid was I, I decided to photograph it and place it here. I have hopefully waited a decent period of time, and most family involved will now know the situation etc. But last night they may not have, and I think it stinks if they'd found out a relative had died in this reporting manner with the address publicised!!

I surprised that teletext is still around. Thought is had gone the way of telegrams. Haven't looked at teletext for about 20 years.

This clearly explains why forum contributors should be selective about what they quote from elsewhere on the net.
