I happened to be strolling through Harvey Norman Manukau the other day and spotted the front page of the Manukau Courier newspaper(we don't get this anymore now we shifted to Takanini) and it had an article on the Manukau Live Steamers Convention being held at Centre Park, Mangere. We thought we would take the Grand kids over for a look see and ride today as it was the last day. I was amazed(the kid in me coming out) when I saw just what they had there. 80+ engines of all descriptions and sizes with quite a few in action on the tracks taking passengers around the 2 Km track. I was happy when the one I was going on was quite large and well able to haul my overweight body along with other passengers and the Grand kids around and through the tunnel for an exciting 15 minutes or so. Web site www.manukaulivesteamers.co.nz/convention.htmlA few photos below: This one has wife Heather, grand kids Timothy and Jaqualine, there friend Hazel just behind driver. "Mine is bigger than Yours?" This is the quite large one. :-) An overall look at the station. It was a great outing for the children and they did enjoy it. Cost was reasonable at $2 and concession tickets for $10 = 6 rides. Colin

I've always admired the work involved in functioning scale models of this type - the build quality is astounding - and you can still have fun riding them as well! Love that Beautiful NZR K Class (the one with the lady in pink driving) that particular class of loco has to be one of my favourites and that particular scale representation certainly does it justice. The cool thing about miniture steam locos is they smell just like the real thing too!

Hey, that's fantastic Colin, thanks for sharing. I had no idea so many of those little engines were in NZ! And indeed a cheap day out. Great photos too.
