Hi all Was doing my regular morning check of the global warbird forums for interesting tidbits when I stumbled upon this at the Key Publishing (FlyPast magazine) forum: forum.keypublishing.co.uk/showthread.php?t=93471The individual who posted "this exciting topic" says it came from a publication of repute not sold to the general public... He says PJ is behind the construction of SIX full-scale flying Mosquito replicas. I know TVAL and Peter can be very secretive, so obviously I don't want anyone to break their confidence, I just thought I'd give everyone a heads-up if it is indeed true. Imagine that! SIX!!!

An interesting rumour... I'm not sure how Authentic the replicas will be in terms of construction etc (genuine wooden airframes or composite moldings?) If genuine wood, I would be sceptical, as currently the only place with the complex formers required to make the airframes is Glynn Powells Mosquito Aircraft at Drury - anyone else would have to spend years making the formers as Glynn did. Glynn already has a production queue for his airframes, and I dont think even PJ could "push in" with 6 airframes. I'm picking if PJ is building new -build mossies, they would be composite construction with modern engines (They are having enough trouble getting Merlins of the correct models for the existing projects...) and this goes against Peter's "modus Operandi" with recent projects such as the FE2. Is there a remake of "633 Squadron" in the works?

Not sure that movie was worth a remake ? Though there are other Mosquito stories that would be good to see . Huge difference between flying replicas of the Mosquito and the static Lancasters . Huge difference as well between the Mosquito and the WW1 collection Peter Jackson has so far been so active in . Certainly not the sort of thing that is going to appear soon . I'm pretty sceptical about this one .

Surely PJ'd be using the Mossies in the Dambuster movie...they were part of the Pathfinders afterall??

Its a shame the original poster hasn't scanned the article in question, but here's what he says:
"The report comes from the Summer 09 edition of the De Havilland Technical School Newsletter, the article under scrutiny by author Mr J Mounce.
The article covers the excellent aviation museums in New Zealand including the Aviation Heritage Centre which Mr Jackson has been involved with. It then reports that '6 new production mosquitos are under manufacture', although shortly after it mentions 'proposals' to build them, a very different matter! It seems my original mention of Mr Jackson's involvement has been blurred into his other dealings in NZ historic aviation."
So, what can we take away from that? Perhaps these "new production" machines are indeed future projects for Glyn Powell's team, and not actually involvement from PJ?
But.
Another poster says this: "From someone loosely connected to the fringes of Peter Jackson's Dam Buster Flying Circus last week I was told that six Mosquito replicas, some full size, were under fabrication in China. However, any sort of reliance on the gossip like this that emerges is dangerous - although the very same informant gave me an early and reliable heads-up on the Lanc replicas and it seems a coincidence that we are also talking six Mosquito aircraft here!"

According to a Google search, J. Mounce, CEng, FRAes, was the President of the New Zealand branch of the Royal Aeronautical Society in 2000-2001.
Someone out there must know him.
Personally from what Sea Fury Fan has written he's seems to be reading something that isn't there. I strongly doubt there's any figment of truth in this at all.

Surely PJ'd be using the Mossies in the Dambuster movie...they were part of the Pathfinders afterall?? Mossies werent used as pathfinders on the dambusters raid, but 617 did use them (and a borrowed USAAF P51 Mustang!) for marking later in the war. Maybe PJ is doing a "lord of the Rings" - style ending to dambusters! Sounds like someone has confused Glyn powells waiting list (which is about 6 airframes - and NOT replicas! ) with Peter Jacksons' Lancasters...

Is that still happening? I remember reading about "The Few" and then a few months later "Valkyrie" was Cruise's WW2 effort.

My very first thought when I heard Tom Cruise was here to see PJ, was that he was wanting Tom to play the part of Guy Gibson in his new 'Dambusters' movie...
...think about it; -they're both men of a shorter stature, Gibson was apparently a very determined, ''full-on chap'', and a very inspirational leader... I can see Tom playing his role really well. -He would also be a big drawcard actor for the movie...
I wonder what Les Munro would think of it, he knew Gibson after all....

I think, given PJ's knack for aviation authenticity (I've only heard good things about his WWI work both in NZ and Australia), that he wouldn't consider Tom Cruise but someone who either has the accent already or is good at accents!
