The countdown is on towards this year's event, now only eight weeks away. I hope that many of you from the forum can come along this year. There's going to be loads to see and do again, and the aerial displays will be worth it alone. On the air side we have Dave Phillips back in his Tiger Moth and Noel Kruse in his Pitts S2S, both of which were highlights last year. New acts this year are the Sioux doing a display, and a mock battle between the Miles Messenger and the Messerschmitt Bf109. For more on the event, please take a look at our website here. www.armisticeincambridge.co.nz/And to get news updates as more details are announced please sign up to our blog here armisticeincambridge.wordpress.com/

Cool, I'll be there. As I've got an iPhone now you might even get some photos uploaded on the Sat night.
Pencil in a forum meetup after the last scheduled event on the Saturday?

Hi Dave
I might/should be helping Rob Pinfold with the models and possibly with some of my old "army kit" for a static display he wants to set up.

Good stuff guys. Spread the word. A few other forum members will also be there. A forum meet after the Saturday close down sounds a great idea.

Only a few days to go now. Who is actually coming? I know Les, Marcus, Errol, Evan, Slackie and I'll be there. Andrew will be flying on the Saturday of course). Zac, are you still coming? As mentioned earier a meeting would be good on the Saturday. As the Pitts Special has sadly had to drop out of the flying line up there's not much on late in the afternoon, so perhaps we could meet at 3.00pm. I propose the meeting place be the info tent, which will be just across from the grandstand on the south-western side, near the military vehicles, so smack in the middle of the park. It's on the map which will be in the proramme you get at the gate, and on the website here: www.armisticeincambridge.co.nz/Location.html

Sounds good, assuming the re-enactors don't decide that it's a good spot to sneak in a WW2 Kiwis vs Germans demo!
Are the air displays going to be off to the North again?

Yes, air displays in the same area. It's the only corridor we have and it's narrow as it is, but just legal.
Errol we have hardly anyone taking official photos this year due to other duties so I'd really appreciate it if you can come up with a load for us like you did last year. Yeour photos were awesome. That goes for you others too, please take heaps of photos or video.

I'll be there with the Seasprite on display, the only Air Force guy but I'll be wearing a Navy uniform with RNZAF badges, just to confuse you all. Les.

Now that I havea little more time to relax after a busy and fun day, I wanted to say how cool today went all in all, and it was great to catch up with several forum members. It was neat to see Les Stockley, Errol Cavit, Colin Hunter, Marcus (from South Africa), Tony18, Mike Leet and his son, Evan Yates, Mike Slack and his son, Mike Aldridge, Diane, and no doubt others whom I have forgotten to acknowledge.
A huge thanks to Evan Yates who has been a brilliant help to me today. Also thanks to Mike Slack for your work too.
And a big shout out to Jim and the crew of the Seasprite, what a fantastic attraction it was having it on site all day. From the moment the helicopter landed throughout the day I noticed it was constantly being admired by the crowd, and I'm sure Jim, Les the crew must have answered hundreds of enquiries about the Sprite and the Navy and RNZAF throughout the day. Your departure was also great, and I'm really glad that there was a bit of a crowd gathered to watch it. Well done guys.
Thanks to Dave Phillips for putting on another superb performance for us this afternoon in the Tiger Moth, he never disappoints. I am looking forward to more of the same precision flying tomorrow at 1.00pm.
And a huge thanks too to Me108 pilot Colin Henderson who has been awesome. When his opponent Andrew Hope was unable to attend at the last minute due to the Miles Messenger suffering maintenance issues, Colin arranged for a subsitute in the form of a Yak 52. Seeing the Yak and the Me108 together in the same airspace was awesome and when side by side they really made me think about the war in the air over Russia. I don't even know who was aboard the Yak I'm afraid, but who ever it was, thanks so much for stepping in last minute and saving the day. People were really impressed seeing the Me108 chasing and shooting at the Yak. Wonderful stuff indeed. Yak-driver Evan did a good job as commentator to bring us all up to date on the Yak.
As our planned 'act' of a Chieftain tank crushing a car sadly came to nothing, due to a mechanical fault that developed with the tank's gearbox which has unable to be fixed in time, the awesome guy Phil Hooker stepped in and volunteered to fill the spot with a short but fantastically sharp display in his Hughes 500. Well done to Phil and his co-pilot for a great impromtu performance. Well done also to Sioux pilot Andy for an excellent commentary that accompanied it. Phil will be displaying the Sioux tomorrow afternoon too, and that and Dave in the Tiger Moth are just two of the many attractions to come. I'm looking forward to the big Vietnam battle and that amazing howitzer firing display tomorrow, it's going to be the biggest Vietnam re-enactment yet. We have the WWI display too, in which an Allied forward aid station has been captured by the Germans and the kiwi Tommies have to fight to get it back. There's the military vehicle parade in town, then the all important commemorative ceremony, and then the military vehicle convoy back to Memorial Park and then the parade around the park track. And there's lots more to see and do too. Plus you can win a ride in the Sioux.
I hope to see some of you again there tomorrow.
