(1966) Sky Pageant: The opening of Auckland International Airport. January 29th 1966. GVs of people and planes on the tarmac. Three hundred planes on display including the new DC8, a Westland hovercraft, the new NZ Airforce Orions. a US military Starlifter, Canberra bombers, RNZAF Harvards, an RAF Falcon, Phantom fighter bombers, RNZAF Vampires and Australian Airforce Mirages. (1956) RAF Vulcan Visits Ohakea: The Avro Vulcan bomber flies over Wellington and lands at Ohakea. Crowds see the plane before it takes off and we say good-bye as the Vulcan flies past Mount Egmont. Tragically, the bomber crashed on landing back in London, killing four of the crew on board. 02.40: Medical Airlift from the Tokelau Islands: An extra polio ward is completed in Samoa, while nurses are flown north to the Tokelau Islands to bring back patients. Physiotherapist Miss Wilson, of Wellington Hospital, attends to patients on the islands and supervises their transfer to Apia Hospital for specialist treatment. 05.25 Jungle Patrol by SAS Squadron: At Kuala Lumpur the C.O. of the New Zealand S.A.S. Squadron briefs Corporal Huia Woods for a jungle patrol. For five days they patrol the Malayan jungle in search of terrorists, and then receive an air-drop of food, mail and ammunition.
