Merry Christmas from OZ. Happy New Year, too.
Change of scene for me. My wife bought me a trip on the James Craig. We will sail up the harbour in a small fleet of tall ships ahead of the start of the Syd/Hob race. We will position out to sea hopefully near the last bouy. I hope to pull some close-ups of the competitors as they sceam by.

I was OK after my CAMS = CASA exam today until they presented me with a bill for $A179.00! All for 10 minutes routine exam. Don't mind the exam but sure baulk at the rip off. 25% increase since last year.

I have vague recollections of a flight from Sydney to Essendon (Melbourne) probably in a DC3 circa 1946 ( I was 4) . Much more vivid were several flights in succession in 1955 when I was 12. Sydney Brisbane TAA Convair, Brisbane Townsville first TAA Viscount flight on that sector then another Convair with leaking hydraulic fluid over the wings from TVL to BN and finally a DC6B from BN to SY. The initial acceleration of the latter was thrilling.
First G/A aicraft flight was in a Victa 110 out of Cooma in about 1964. (Age 22)
First solo 2nd April 1976. (Age 34).

Terribly sad to hear that your young bloke, Porter, died as a result of his injuries sustained in the support category race. Something of an "own goal" in that it was his former car which hit him in the melee.
I only caught a glimpse of the event as I was otherwise engaged in the air-to-air shoot at Tyabb.
Is Dave alive and well?
Good to see Craig Lowndes win.

Lowndes is hot at the moment and has a big team behind him. Whincup is less experienced so I hope he doen't throw it at the walls.
Nothing between the cars. Parity ensures that so we are told.
I have no bias one way or the other. Laws of probability make Ford the better bet, too.
I drove in the Bathurst 500/1000 in 1969,70 and 74. Finished each event.
Special place, Mt.Panorama. It's in the air.

And the stupid twit decides to fire up the starboard engine and try to drive the Citation out of the bay. ASS ymetrics at its worst.
What was he going to do... fly it back to his boss with an apology?

TV images from a helio over the car show the right hand rear wheel at an abnormal angle.
Maybe as a result of the impact but food for thought and will certainly be examined by CAMS and the WA Police.
The car has gone in sideways and hit the tree with the driver's door.
Nav has been taken to hospital in a "stable" condition. I hope he will be OK.
Tributes are pouring in to the TV commentary. A state funeral is mooted. Victorians driving home with headlights on as a mark of respect.

Latest news tells us he was driving a silver Daytona Coupe. TV images are showing the car with a blue cover over it with Pete still inside. It looks like he has hit the tree in a left-hand turn and the tree has impacted the roof area. The car is on its wheels. His navigator was taken to hospital with injuries.
