So its $122 million for one F35A thats still cheaper than P8A poseidon (P3C orion replacement)$200 million or MH60R latest USN Helo $150 million. Dont think F22A is for export. It will interesting to see what the orions and seasprites will be replaced with come 2020 considering cost replacing with the like capability is out of the price range of the NZDF. Guess could be the case of fitted for but not with.

So true the RNZAF RNZN needs stand off maritime strike capability although it seems unlikely in short term, long term there must be some sort of delivery platform in the form of UAV or P8A . PLANN Type blue water carriers proposed just example of force projection in our region in the future . Attachments:

Yip sounds like another short sighted bean counter exercise, The same people that finally realized they need uniformed technical trades to keep aircraft in the sky and ships at sea but still need a technical trade review to justify it.

Sounds like full on exercise , with live firings etc. Came across some impressive pics of Te Kaha's 5 inch shoot on the net just capturing the round as it comes out of barrel. Attachments:

Yip that's why ships have stabilizing fins , could just upgrade the existing iroquois to uh1y venom standard, would be bit of overkill firing hydra rockets warning shots over the bow of fishing boats.

MH60R highly capable but way too expensive for NZ budget 100 million + per unit MH60S lacks search radar basically logistics helicopter. NH90 new technology not sure if they will fit on frigates commonality with RNZAF NH90 AW139 lynx wildcat 27 million pounds per unit expensive for similar capability as sea sprite. SH70B proven technology so less risk easily intergrated on ANZAC frigates some common with current seasprite radar , Engine etc , used by nations Australia Singapore US Improved capability over existing platform.

I thought we did have maritime strike capability on form of embarked seasprites?

It seems highly unlikely as it is not stated in current defence review Missiles and associated targeting fire control systems upgrades are very costly our two ANZACS are still awaiting replacement of the RIM 7 seasparrow point defence system with upgraded ESSM or similar improved capability. The orions key role to provide over the horizon ISR coverage. The possible anti submarine sensor upgrade looks improve the all round ISR utility

Both ANZACs and Canterbury are capable of embarking the SH60, RAN currently operates seahawks off its ANZAC class FFGs. The contract for the seasprites was around $275 million NZ in the late 1990s. Brazilian Navy package was around $300 million US for 6 SH70B spare engines ,spares training etc. Attachments:
