Nothing about Tech Trades or equipment. Nothing showing a typical Air Force Base or accommodation. Really just about being a pilot or other aircrew.

Nah! Too brief, too slick on graphics, lacks substance, too much artistic license ...

In the first photo above you see Bernie Killington, who was an Electrical NCO at Ohakea when I was there.

Yeah, just a minor stroke that completely disabled my right hand for a day. It's working again now but not up to full strength for a while yet.

I have just spent three days in hospital. The guy in the bed opposite me was a full-time enlisted NZ Navy chap with 14 years service, several technical trade qualifications and although we did not talk about this particular ship, he said the situation was very serious regarding loss of staff, technical expertise and the inability to maintain assets.

Very well written publicity for this aircraft. I wanted to rush out and buy one right away! How successful was it and how many were built?

According to what I have read some years ago, it was an acceptable emergency practice to windmill-start one Starfighter using the jet efflux of another. Can anyone verify that?

On a very serious note, this will allow them to completely obliterate or destroy the hugely important historical evidence of pre-Maori occupation of NZ contained therein. Evidence that has been embargoed for years from anyone investigating the topic; access denied, period.

There are a lot of mixed variables here but I remember back in the 50s and 60s the Una hill behind Thames was "torched" every two or three years. It was just left to burn itself out. There was no attempt or equipment to fight it and no need as there are no houses there. Maybe it still occurs. Whether they would fight it today is unknown to me.

Fascinating. Really appreciated. Did you notice the HMNZS Tamaki crest and motto is the same as RNZAF 75 Squadron? Ake Ake Kia Kaha I wonder who had first use?

If it is serious then we need our arses kicked for departing from traditional NZ pioneering and innovation. We should already be working on ideas and plans for operating from water runways!

Gene Kilburn: For many years from the mid-1990's Gene was one of the resident Civil Aviation Surveyors based at their Rukuhia/Hamilton Airport office. I don't know when he retired.

Very accurate predictions for 49 years ago. All true. One of the most disturbing things is the use of Direct Energy Weapons (called laser death rays in 1975) against civilian assets when the DEWs are under the control of quasi-government entities run by corrupt politicians.

This has to be brief and to the point, so sorry if I sound a bit blunt here. 1. The road to becoming an LAME will pay considerably less than your typical QS position (maybe less than half of your existing salary). You should not attempt this if you have family commitments. 2. Nothing really transferable for your QS role. The emphasis is on Maintenance Engineer, maintaining aircraft systems and components. 3. Your QS experience would only be useful if you were in a planning or project manager role for aircraft manufacturing or major modification programmes (e.g. RNZAF Project Kahu) for which AME Licensing is not required, so flag that away. 4. There is a big difference between the mechanical and avionic trades other than a few core basic engineering subjects. 5. You need to look really thoroughly at the licence requirements and all the exam subjects you will have to pass in the respective licence categories (typically you will have to sit about 20 CAA Exam Subjects). You may be able to look at typical exam papers so you know what to expect. If you are still determined, we should discuss by PM or direct email or a phone call can save a lot of typing time! OJ

Whew, this is a big topic with many variables. I have been an LAME since 1970. In order to answer some of your questions I need to know what is your existing trade or employment? This will indicate to me whether you are seeking to become an Avionic or Mechanical LAME, and those categories sub-divide further into a raft of careers. Migration from an existing related trade (e.g. automotive mechanic) can make it an easier and quicker path. I presume you have researched the NZ CAA website regarding licence requirements?
