I really think the tandem seat advanced trainer is a must for the Air Force, not only for the future C-130 replacement pilots, also for the P-3 etc. And.... the fast flying T-6C (or PC-21) is a ideal aircraft to train ground forces with fast moving close air support training.

So... I guess that it will be the Raytheon T-6 Texan II right? At least better that then nothing. Very interesting to see them in nice combat colourscheme.

Very interesting reading Naki, thanks for your reply and scan... It seems that RNZAF is taken seriously the option for a trainer aircraft (like PC-9/T-6B etc)... would be awesome to see some in 14 Sqn markings About those Macchi's; a shame that those aircraft are now marked for ending up in museum, as it will be hard to sell them with those engine problems KiwiRico

Hello fellow A-4 lovers,
I am proud to anounce that I will start production of 100 patches of the A-4K Kahu as at the iamge. Only small change is made; 500 Hours will be replaced by what Skyhawkdon has mentioned in one of his reply's into "1970 - 2001" to mark the years of A-4 operations in New Zealand.
The patches will be donated to 75 Sqn members, but I will keep 20 for distrubution amongst you guys. Most likely I will shipp the patches to one of you in NZ (Skyhawkdon?) so he will deliver them to you guys. I expect to have them ready by late january for shipment. When I have them here, I will scan a picture.
Enjoy your week, best wishes from KiwiRico....

Theres a small article in the latest Aviation News commenting that the RNZAF is considering either Pilatus PC-7/9, Raytheon T-6s or Embraer Tucanos to partly replace the King Airs and supplement the CT-4s. It also mentioned that resurrecting the Aermacchis just wasn't financially possible as they had to be repowered (as mentioned on this board before) as RR arent supoorting the Vipers they currently have. Hi Naki, can you scan that article? I would like to read that one... Cheers, KiwiRico

I like the patch Kiwirico any chance you could accept orders for them, honestly it just looks like such a modern and cool design And when it comes to most Kahu Houres what about Chris Underwood "Undies" he was bloke to fly the A-4 was he not? even after the squadrons had beed disbanded. Hello Kiwiscanfly, I seriously consider the production of this patch and it could be done in 4 weeks time if I give the supplier the green light. My wish is to get some one involved here with A-4 background (technician, pilot 2 SQN and/or 75 SQN). I already tried to get in contact with some A-4 jocks, per haps one of you can do the same and show the patch and the idea. If done, sure you guys get one sample for your collection. Hope to hear some comments, KiwiRico, Holland

What a shame it never got used KiwiRico. Maybe a retrospective issue of the patch could be in order for those who achieved the required hours. Thank you guys for your nice comment. Indeed a shame that the patches never reached the stage to be used on the flightsuits I consider the idea from Dave, but when so... I need to have your help guys to reach those who did achieved the 500 and up hours on the A-4K. Any help welcome. If produced, you guys will get one for free Cheers, KiwiRico

Dear people, Back in 1997 I was asked by a 75 SQN pilot to design a patch, and some few weeks later they aproved this patch. The idea was to have a 500 Hours Kahu patch and 1000 Hours A-4K. Just a year later the patches were confirmed as being good by the Cmdr. and ready for production. Unfortunately, the patch only reached the state of pre-production as the 75 SQN cancelled the order for 100 pieces. Still, I think the patch deserved a place here at the forum. Perhaps a idea to use the patch for future RNZAF A-4 Asociation ;D Best regards, KiwiRico Attachments:

Well if we are talking about getting a wish list of the following: 1) 3 light transports or MPA's 2) 10 Advanced trainers PC-21's 3) 5 more A109's armed 4) 2 more NH90's What could that cost each NZ'er............. if you can do the same math with this Dave Very well, 3 EADS C-235 transport with some MPA capability, 5 to 8 more armed A.109's, 2 more C-SAR configured NH-90's and..... 10 EMBRAER Super Tucanos (which are already wired for weapons, unlike the Swiss PC-21's which are not armed!!!). Perhaps a third Boeing 757 would be added. Hope some one from NZ Government takes me serious ;D cheers

The CASA CN-235 could provide the following with ease- Advanced training(multi engine). Tactical transport support to the C-130 fleet. VIP transport. Provide a cheaper platform for parachute training over the C-130. And there is a maritime version that Ireland and Spain use called the MP Persuader. With its rear loading ramp really I can not see past it. I love the Q300 and fly more on one these days than I drive my car,but its a bit limited in certain areas. In the 1980's the RNZAF operated F-27 Friendship,Cessna 421 Golden Eagle and the Andovers in rolesbacking up the C-130 and P-3,with a CN-235 you can do all those roles in one. I still think there also needs to be an advanced follow on from the CT-4 as the step up from that to the A109 will be huge even with similator training, nothing bets the real thing. I fear that penny pinching over this issue could down the track cost someone their life. I agree with you Raptor. The best aircraft to get is the CN.235 which has been constucted as military tranpsort from it's orgins. Not only the Irish and Spanish air arms ise the MP version, also Mexico, Indonesia and US Coast Guard make use of them as well. For me personally the EADS transport is the right plane for the RNZAF.... we will see

Kiwirico, are you after a bigger image of that scheme you posted? The reason why I ask is that scheme is from around 1997 but your subject header said you were after a late 80s A-4K, in which case you would be after one in the Euro 1 scheme. Smithy, do you have any better (and bigger?) image of A-4K like I posted? Very much interested in the vieuw from above... Many thanks, KiwiRico

Very very nice pictures... I was there in 1981 thanks to a 2 year during stay at nearby place called Glen Oroua. My grandfather constucted there a house and we lived there for almost two years. I have some pictures from myself at the age of 11 years at Ohakea watching Strikemasters..... For some reason I do remember the Strikemasters better then the A-4's Wow... that where much better days then... Cheers

Steve Moore did all the evaluation test flying. He is still in the RNZAF (now an Air Commodore). That's nice to hear you know a name; could you perhaps bring me in contact with Steve More (or sent him a message from me?) Thanks SkyhawkDon

Thanks for reply Smithy, actually I need better images from both; the one in the image (bad scan...) and the one used in late 1980's (I guess that was the European One camo. Do you have better images? Would be great. Thanks and hope to hear from you. KiwiRico
