I received the latest copy of Air Force News today (Octoer 2009). A few things from it:
On page 14 there's a photo of a Wings course passing out. U note the new pilots on paradeall have white gloves on their left hand, but the right hand is bare. It has been many years since I was rentacrowd at a Wings passing out parade but i don't recall seeing this one glove on, one not before. Can someone please explain what is going on?
The same article names one of the pilots as Top Gun. Doesn't the RNZAF need something with guns to have Top Gun pilots??
On page 22 there's a group photo of US medics and a kiwi in front of an Iroquois in the USA. I hope that it's not in service, it looks rougher than the one Mel Gibson and Robert Downey junior flew into a tree in Air America!!
I love that photo on Page 23 of the chap with the chainsaw standing next to the gaping hole in the Boeing 757.
Lastly, it's really neat to see how the Air Force News has supported Larry Hill's book with a nice big advert.

The glove thing probably has something to do with holding the swords, I dont think they are supposed to touch them with bare hands.

Correct: Swords are required to be handled with gloved hands at all times. even when loaned for weddings! Those sword belts, incidentally, are supposed to be parallel with the waist, not hanging down like a pair of baggies' underpants!

The take the glove off when they go up to receive their brevet and trophies, they put it back on again before marching back to their parade positions. It lets them shake hands with the RO.
Yes, we all noted the 'Top Gun' thing too - that was the headline from a newspaper article at the time of the parade.

Thanks. I did think they wore gloves on both hands normally during the passing out parades.

It may well have been common knowledge, but it's nice to see the Deere Spitfire has a permanent home...at OH.

Simple really, the 50% cut in clothing budget was applied to gloves this year

Those who did time at Wigram will remember the "Flight simulators". I used to watch them in action.
