Browns Bay Christmas Parade and XFest09
This year’s XFest and Christmas Parade will be on Sunday the 6th December 2009. The fun starts from 10am with a spectacular display on the water in front of the beautiful Browns Bay beach. The Northern regional Coast Guard will be showing off their skills on the water with rescue drills and other entertaining displays. There will be off shore power boats, sea legs the amphibious boat, Jetz ski’s, kayak and canoes. The kids can line up to have free rides on the Jetz skies, canoe and kayaks. It will be a great start to an amazing day.
The Browns Bay Christmas Parade, starting at 1pm, boasts to be the biggest Christmas Parade on the North Shore, with well over 1000 participants in last year’s parade. We plan this year to be even better. There will be hot rods and classic cars, entertaining dancers, music and fun for the whole family. Participants go to great lengths to decorate their cars, boats, themselves and even their pets to be part of the parade. There will be a prize for best float and a trophy too. Last years winners the Taiaotea Sea Cub Scouts theme was “pirates” and won, in spite of squirting the crowd and the judges with their water guns. They even had time to help clean up the street before receiving their trophy. This year we will have a compare who will announce each parade group as they pass the stage in Clyde Road, Browns Bay so look out for groups such as your local kindy’s, Primary school’s and Churches. Bring a hat, a smile and an arm ready to wave and clap the parade on down the main street.
Following the parade there will be an Air show over the water and beach (Starting around 2pm). The RNZAF will have the famous Red Checkers Team flying in loops, upside down and all around showing off their Aerobatic skills. There will be other groups from North Shore Aero Club, Kiwi Blue Parachute team, Helicopters and old fighter planes filling the skies above Browns Bay, to entertain you all afternoon. Don’t forget to check out the market stalls, bouncy castle and face painting for the kids too. Look forward to a great day!
(This event will be subject to weather permitting. Subject to change without notice)
Starts: Sunday, 6 December, 10:00am
Ends: Sunday, 6 December
At: Browns Bay
Red Checkers returning to North Shore for dinner afterwards apparently, might have to head out to the club that evening
