What would you consider to be the most iconic photos from the WWII era of the RNZAF?
I've been asked to suggest some for a project, and they want nice eye-catching iconic shots.
I have a few in mind but would really appreciate suggestions.

One of my favourites is the shot of 3 P-40 Kittyhawks in formation (Umsloppagass (sp?) is one of them) somewhere over the North Island.
Slight bias here, but a couple of other iconic shots I would rate are the ones of F4U-1Ds NZ5410 and NZ5440 coming in to land at Jacquinot Bay in 1945 - both of which have been featured in a number of publications over the years.

Yes the No. 14 Squadron P-40's in formation was the first photo that I thought of too. i cannot find a decent clean print of it though.

There's an awesome mass formation of Corsairs (official RNZAF photo I think) possibly in the Pacific theatre? There are about 15-20 of them in formation. That's pretty cool.

Surely a pic of Al Deere and his Spit would fit or is that too 'RAF'?
Not really my place to comment though.

Yeah, shut up, you bloody Aussie: don't you go dragging bloody Spitfires into a perfectly good thread about the Corsair and Kittyhawk! ;D ;D

We've sorted out some photos for the project now I believe, thanks for the suggestions.
Al Deere wasn't in the RNZAF, of course... but a good suggestion.

So Dave, are you able to tell us the ones you've run with?

Not at this stage as it's not me working on it, I was just asked to supply some phtoos and ideas. I sent a few from private collections and I believe photos have been selected from those.

My vote goes to the 23 August 1944 Wing Attack where some 44 Beaufighters from 4 Squadrons attacked a German convoy off Schiermonnikoog. At least 13 kiwi aircraft were involved

A strong contender for the top of any list of iconic RNZAF photos of WW2 must be the official RNZAF picture of the 6 P-40's flying over the ocean, led by a Hudson.
Flying from "Santo" to "the canal"....
Very atmospheric..

Ewwwwwwwwwww no not a Hudson!! (Ducks incoming rounds from a Mr D. Homewood!) ;D I quite like the shots of pilots and or ground crew around any of our aircraft in the islands. (I'm biased towards Avengers of course!)

Probably long missed the old boat...
but Dave if not, may I suggest that great photo of 485 in '44 where the boys have painted a squadron tent with "Strength thro' sex" as an alternative squadron motto for the benefit of the visiting press party!

I personally would go for the one of the Venturas unloading over Rabaul.
