A bit late but....
We are having our annual flyin at Mandeville (hopefully the weather is better than the past 2 years) this coming weekend - 20th, 21st Feb. All are welcome if you are able to attend. The days will kick off at around 10:30 and conclude approx 4pm, joyrides will be available in most of our machines and it is likely that we will fly the Pither monoplane if the weather suits. Rob Borrius-Broek will hopefully have the P-51 there from Sat afternoon onwards and will be doing cost sharing flights for those interested.

Saturday was great, nice and sunny, very busy for us with joyrides and great to see Robert show up with the Mustang. It was a little breezy (5-10kts) on Saturday but not to bad considering what was happening only 3 or 4 miles down the road in every direction (30kts of wind). Today was a bit of a blow out with a howling Nor Wester at about 30kts so not much in the way of flying for us, I took the Proctor out briefly but that was about it. Rob had a race around in the P-51 and departed for Wanaka late in the day but the wind didnt really settle down until dark.
Overall great weekend, lots of sun, quite good numbers of people through with an OK ammount of flying. Better than last year by a huge margin (low clud wind and rain both days).
Gavin was there and so was Shorty so hopefully we will see some great pics in the next wee while.

Was a great weekend, the wind did get up a bit but its been a difficult season so far in terms of weather at some aviation orientated events, but in saying that I did learn quite a bit about Tiger flying in difficult conditions early on Sunday morning so that was helpful Great bunch of people and that made the difference for me personally, almost too much fun at times. Special thanks to Ryan, Colin, and Maeva for making my visit memorable and in fact the whole weekend was lots of fun for the families. Must look through some photos soon but here is a couple for a start. Thanks again Ryan

The Rapide shot is really nice, they all are. Great backdrops too, those mountains are quite dramatic.

Old birds please crowds at Mandeville fly-inBy SONIA GERKEN - The Southland Times | 5:00AM - Tuesday, 23 February 2010AHH, GREAT: Auckland aviator Guy Clapshaw, with Croydon Aircraft Company co-owner Malcolm Smith (partly obscured), was all smiles after taking his restored Percival Proctor for a spin at the Mandeville fly-in at the weekend. — EMMA CARLE/The Southland Times.A plane made famous by New Zealand pioneer aviator Jean Batten and a flashy warbird were among the crowd-pleasers at this year's Mandeville fly-in.
Hosted by the Croydon Aircraft Company at its Mandeville airfield, the fly-in attracted an estimated 1500 aviation enthusiasts over the two days. Among them was a tour group from the United States and the United Kingdom who were flying around New Zealand in their Comanche planes.
Event organiser Maeva Smith said the fly-in had not waned in popularity since it was first held in 1988. "I think people just enjoy the fact they can get up close to an airplane and touch it."
This year proved a bit of an emotional one as engineers farewelled a plane they had restored.
The Percival Proctor, the same type of plane Batten used in her historic flight from London to New Zealand, was flown home to Auckland by her owner Guy Clapshaw.
Mrs Smith said it always felt strange when something that arrived as a cardboard box of bits left — "the guys put a lot of themselves into it".
A P51 Mustang, owned by Robert Borrius-Broek, added to the excitement above the airfield, as well as treating motorsport fans when it buzzed Teretonga on Sunday, she said.www.stuff.co.nz/southland-times/news/3361588/Old-birds-please-crowds-at-Mandeville-fly-in

That Proctor/Vega has to be the most beautiful monoplane I've ever seen. I just love the Gull series, and Guy's machine is a wonderful example. As always Gav, great photos, and nice to hear everything went so well for the Croydon team!
