The Harvard team did a great show over Napier and I think a few extra routines where added to their display . Great flying guys . We missed the Airtrainers being able to do their display but there is always next year. The Catalina did many flights and I was totaly distracted from my garden work when the Mustang was in the air over Napier look forward to bigger and better next year

The Cat only does fresh water landings, on the rare occasions it does a water landing at all. Corrosion and all that.

The Catalina joyride flights out of Wanaka during WOW usually involve a touch-and-go water landing. I went for a flight during WOW 2008 in very turbulent conditions and they put the hull into Lake Wanaka which was very choppy at the time. I was amazed at how much of a pounding the hull took. The interesting thing was that just prior to the Catalina flight, I went up in the Warbirds Dakota and they insisted on everyone remaining strapped in tight during the flight due to the turbulence. By way of contrast, the Catalina crew were happy for the passengers to move around the aeroplane during the flight, in spite of the fact you had to really hold on tight to something while on your feet and in fact got lifted right off your feet on numerous occasions. Getting over the bulkheads was a bit of a challenge in the turbulence, but it made it that much more exciting.
