Mum sent me this clip which I have hopefully attached. I'm not really convinced that it's real, but if it is, it's a bloody impressive bit of flying. here's the blurb that went with it: Read below before watching the video clip. The F-35 is a vertical takeoff supersonic jet for the Navy and the Marines. I would say there's nothing about this incident the pilot enjoys other than the end result. If he could have ejected at 100' upside down and lived, he would have. Looks like the afterburner kicks in while still vectored for vertical takeoff. DUH! Lockheed would call this a "software malfunction" and needs to do a little more "regressive testing". Good demo of power-to-weight ratio of this aircraft! And some unbelievable stability control. If he didn't come out of the loop wings-level, it probably would have been bad news, maybe taking some of the carrier with him! Flying through your own exhaust can lead to equipment malfunctions, too, but fortunately he avoided that. This is probably the most unbelievable piece of flying you will ever see in your life. This is how a supremely well-trained US Navy pilot with ice water running in his veins instead of blood, fully regains control of his $70 million fighter jet, after a problematic vertical take-off attempt that would have killed you or me. At the top of the screen watch as the rear vertical thruster fires to cause the problem. Attachments:

No!...I am 99% sure that is a flight sim vid... not sure what one probably FSX. I am also pretty sure they have yet to fly the real VTOL F-35 off a carrier as well

The F35 B is only in the early stages of flight testing and has yet to enter the VTO Phase. this week it carried out low speed (40kt!) handling passes in preparation for transition to vertical landing mode - so its highly unlikely its been playing around on a carrier yet!

That is from Battlefield 2, some amazing players on there doing some amazing things. Do a Youtube search for vids if you like.

Thanks. I don't know a thing about the F-35 and nor do i care for that matter, but I was totally unconvinced by the clip even though it looks pretty realistic, CGI-wise. But Mum reckoned it must be real as the words in the email told the story. I said it was fake. So she said "Put the clip on your forum and see what they say." Thanks for confirming my thoughts.

Ahhh yes I got a few kills in the F35 in Battlefield 2. But mostly got my arse shot out of the sky by ground fire or my non pilot brother in law. He is ex-RNZAF though so I put it down to military training!! ;D
