I just came across this photo of a TBF of 30sqn burnt out in "the swamp" at Gisborne airfield The crew got out and were not injured

I guess thats got to be NZ2516:
"Crashed when engine failed on landing approach at Gisborne on 21 December 1943"

That is an interesting photo. I've never seen a photo of the hangar at Darton Field in wartime before. Also are they large numbers on the cowls of some of the Avengers lined up there? Or are they nose arts?

The three closest to NZ2516's tail have there cowlings removed.
Ill try get a better scan of the photo.

I was trying to figure out what was up with the TBF about 5th or 6th from the right of the tail. Then I realised the wing was unlocked and was hanging down.

I was trying to figure out what was up with the TBF about 5th or 6th from the right of the tail. Then I realised the wing was unlocked and was hanging down. The first time I saw it I thought it was a Percival Provost T1 then I used my brain and remembered they went made until the mid '50s
