Thankyou very much for the information regarding my uncle "Harry" William Henry Garvin. His brother Sydney Garvin has recently passed away and on clearing his house Harry's diary and log book were found. My cousin and I would like know if there is a historical museum in the UK that look after such things. We now live in Australia but will be coming to the UK to bring Uncle Syds ashes to be interred with our grandparents. Cheers Sandra

Hi Sandra You might consider forwarding them to Glen Turner because he has a lot of 75 Sqn memorabilia or to the Air Force Museum at Wigram which also does. If you want it to be in the UK then the RAF Museum at Hendon is the most appropriate place. This weekend we had the annual commemoration service at Mepal and I did think of Harry along with the others when they mentioned those who have left us. Best wishes Dee Attachments:

Piet de Geus has made an MS Flight Sim movie of the Soarremorre mission, which ends with some shots of the ceremony:

Just watched it as I was sent a link by one of my Dutch contacts. I must say I had a tear in my eye at the end. Thanks to Piet for doing the flight sim.

Hi I am looking for some information in regard to my uncle William Henry Garvin who was a member of the RAF Volunteer Reserve 75 Squadron and was killed in action on 25 July 1943. If anyone has information regarding that fateful flight or knows if the plane was ever found it would be much appreciated. Cheers Sandra

Hi Sandra, Your uncle was a Wireless Operator/ Air Gunner with the crew of Sgt H. Nicol. They were shot down by a night fighter piloted by Fw. Meissner, and crashed at Neumunster. Only two the the crew got out, the navigator and the rear gunner. Unfortunately, like so many, the crew were only on the squadron a short time. Sgt Nicol flew as 2nd dickie to F/L Joll on 3/4 July 1943, to gain experience before taking his own crew on operations. The next night 4/5 July saw them fly their first operation as a crew, dropping mines off Ille de Re. The next op was 8/9 July, once again dropping mines. This time in the Gironde Estuary. The next trip was to Aachen on 13 July. Then there is a gap in flying due to bad weather, with the next and last op to Hamburg on 24/25 July, when they were shot down. Sgt Nicol was promoted to Warrant Officer, but I don't have a date. W/O H. Nicol..........Captain F/S A. Robinson.....Nav P/O E. Mansell.......A/B Sgt W. Garvin........WO/Air Sgt C. Radford.......F/Eng Sgt H. Norrington...M/U/Gnr F/S B. Cooksley......Rear/Gnr
Regards, Wayne.
