Today I attended the funeral of a former workmate, John Strand, who was in his 95th year.
John was an early EFTS trainee who after his Wings course was selected for instructor training and served at Woodbourne, New Plymouth, Mount Maunganui and Wigram before being posted to the Reserve where he served a further 17 years.
Some will have already recalled that it was he and a trainee who found the wreckage of Electra ZK-AFE on Mount Richmond 12 May 1942, and I recall reading (perhaps on this forum) that he also survived a Harvard-on-Harvard mid-air during his Woodbourne days.
Fly on John. They shall not grow old........
