Not a Helicopter but spotted this parked at countdown bridge st, Hamilton a week or so ago - excuse the photo quality its taken with the mobile phone threw the winscreen of my car.  |

That Gyrocopter (RAW) was operating from Raglan airfield Sunday before last. He was enthusiastically demonstrating its capability over the field while I was firing up the mighty C172 to come home from a family lunch mission. There was another gyro parked there as well.
The thing that struck me about RAW was how close the tail skid below the rudder gets to the ground on the take off run. I'm sure I saw puffs of dirt before it actually lifted off...

ZK-HLN has been based out of whitianga over the christmas,new years period and has been very busy into waikato hospital as was predicted by the powers that be,hence the amount of tooing and frowing that we have seen of this particular machine into hamilton. a good call by the westpac-rescue trust to base it at whitianga i say.

rumours are that waikatos bell 222 is soon to be replaced with a more modern twin engine machine? having watched the changing of machines at work of phillips search and rescue trust this would seem as a definate likelyhood. the bell is apparently undergoing some major work and hense the white squirrel that is being seen doing alot of work at the mo(phillips01).
