I recently attended a hypoxia training course held at the air force medical unit in Hobsonville. This was organised by Roger Read and I have since found out that at least one other regular forum member was also there. Here are some photos.
The chamber
We had 30 minutes at sea level breathing pure oxygen to de-nitrify our blood which reduces the chance of suffering from any decompression sickness like the bends.
Weather balloon at sea level
We then decompressed to a simulated 18,000 feet where we spend 10 minutes without oxygen on.

After 18,000 feet, we carried on up to 25,000 feet, where the time of useful consciousness reduces to 2- 3 minutes. this is where we were subjected to a number of mental tests.

Hypoxia produces a number of symptoms in the body. However they manifest themselves slightly differently in each individual. The purpose of this training is to identify what symptoms you feel in a controlled environment.
