"NZ Warbirds held a meeting at 1200 today and the decision was that the open day will still go ahead. You will understand that it all hinges on the state of the weather tomorrow. If it stays the same as today there will be a flypast over the Cenotaph. There may or may not be flying displays in the afternoon. Listen to Newstalk ZB between 0730 and 0800 tomorrow morning for the final decision."

I'v been asked to turn out to Ardmore at 0800 to set up for a scaled down open day and a decision will be made in the morning as to whether the will be any air displays. All that is subject to the weather of course. Driving rain in Henderson Valley at the moment and we have had two lengthy power outages. We haven't had more than 10 minutes of actual rain at a time here in Ellerslie. Fairly blowey, however.

Thanks for that Ralph, it sounds more promising than the weather chart looks. Fingers crossed.

Well done to you guys for getting so many planes up - bloody awful conditions, but it was worth the windy wait to have a first glimpse of the Spitfire in the air, and to see the three fighters up there together. All we need now is a Hurricane to have the full set!

Great photos have you got any more of the other aircraft involved in the flypast? Weather doesn't look very nice at all and good on NZ Warbirds for persevering in order to mark the 70th anniveresary of the Battle Of Britain.

Nice pics. Shame ChCh is such a long distance away from Auckland, the weather has been pretty good here over the weekend. Ah well, I'll just have to be patient and await Classic Fighters at Omaka next year. Book now for fine weather....

Only other photos I took were of the trusty Harvards ... ... and this guy who was stooging around for a while waiting for a break in the Warbird traffic and nasty squalls coming down the harbour - took his turn as well eventually. A couple of Chipmunks and the Beaver also went over - most were too far away, didn't come down close enough for decent photos, and didn't hang around afterwards - can't blame them! Cheers, Chris

Venom VNM did a fast taxi along the runway too. No it didn't take off.

I just watched this afternoons flying. The Spitfire display was amazing! I dont get to see many airshows in nz because of work....but get to see a few overseas........Spitfire display was better than anything at Reno, Fleet week or Farnborough! I was amazed the way the whole display was right in front of you the whole time and you didnt end up watching a little dot miles away like you see at so many airshows overseas. Looked very tight and was very exciting to watch......plus all with nasty weather conditions. Well done! An amazing display!

That spitfire display was some of the most impressive flying I've ever seen and especially credit that he could pull it off in such tricky weather. Also well done to the harvard and Trojan guys.

I was in one of the Auckland Aero Club Grummans in the first formation (the flight over the War Memorial). Got some photos which I'll post here later. Was pretty lumpy up there - definitely great flying by everyone involved during the day!

Despite the dreadful rain squalls and gusty high wind, the displays today were great. I missed the beginning but got there as the two Harvards, the CT4B and Airtourer were flying in very close and nice formation. The Kittyhawk display was great, and the Venom high speed run was awesome as I was on the flight line. But the Spitfire display was the highlight. What an awesome display, well done Keith, considering the wind it was so tight and low and precise. It was fantastic to finally see the two seated make it's public display. Well done to all involved.

I meant to add I filmed the spitfire display but the wind was so excessive it really buffeted the camera made it shaky and jumpy. I have never filmed in such wind and am amazed that the pilots kept such great control. Especially the formation pilots. Well done to all.

Great shots Errol! I've saved that first Spitfire pic. Looks like it was well worth it after all the doom-and-gloom weather predictions, I'm quite jealous! It is wonderful to see the Venom moving under her own power before a crowd once more, and I am so pleased to see the Spitfire doing its thing. Keith Skilling certainly is a master of the spade-grip, just imagine how he and John Lanham would be as a pair.....bring on Omaka! I'd love to see any more photos guys, my aviation activities have been severely limited in NP due to settling in and the weather, so news from "abroad" is most welcome And Dave...."Don't you yell at ME, MISTER Warwick!"

Some shots of CAG taken at 600mm+ using a 2X converter on my 80-400 lens. Manual focus and quite hard to keep steady. There is a 1.5x crop using the D2Xs so focal length crop is around 900mm. Not the sharpest results I would like but getting there with practice. Cheers
