Very much thinking of driving down tomorrow. Where will everyone be? Should have organised a meeting.

There is a meeting organised Darren, by the main entrance to the big white tent at the end of the programme. There is a problem with this though, there are two big white tents, and each seems to have two entrances!!
I suggest a better place is beside the Russian T-34 tank. That's right, there is a genuine T-34 there. It's just arrived in the country. You can't miss it as it will be prominent when you come through the main gate, so that is the best place to meet up in my opinion.
My mobile is 021 122 1918 if anyone is trying to text me.
I went there today to help set up tables etc, and caught up with some of the organisers who I know well. It was confirmed to me the RNZAF has definately pulled out of the event altoether so no Kiwi Blue and no Iroquois display and no recruitment tent, etc.
Also I discovered the Lion Tamer is not nearly as exciting as I thought. It's not real lions. (we have a natioinal circus based in Cambridge so I assumed they were bringing there's). It's a man with a whip who will "tame" a helicopter apparently. My visions of lions mauling Romans when they go berserk will not come to fruition...
Also there this afternoon was the Chieftain tank again. And some other military trucks and a bren carrier had arrived. Something that I was pleased to see that has not (from memory) attended before was a Bedford RL. My goodness, looking at it now I have no idea how I and my fellow recruits used to spring into and out of those things, the deck is so much higher than I recall. We had many a rough trip in the bush in the back of those things. We were told when we got off road to all link arms, because on a previous recruit course someone had fallen out the back and been killed. Was that true or just a story to scare us. I can't recall if it was an RNZAF or an Army recruit.
Apart from the RL and the T-34, I didn't see anything new or spectacular.

Sean, I'm not sure if that is the Nanchang I saw, that one looks black but I'm sure the one I saw was green.

Sounds good to me, I was working blind - there was a reference to the 'white whale' in the Wellington Rifles discussion, and the draft camp layout that I saw showed a single big tent.

Definately two, like last year. One for the gun nuts and one for the modellers and collection displays.
Actually Rob Pinfold (who's on the committee) said two new features will be pyrotechnics and increased rocketry.

For the first time in years I will not be taking the video camera. I'm looking forward to just being a spectator for a change. Being on the organising committee the last three years meant lots of work and stress on the actual weekend, so just being able to wander round and look will be nice. Plus I might need a hand free for a brolley.

That's not a Leopard, it's a British tank called a Chieftain.
