I don't have the glass to make full use of it (apart from the 50mm/1.8, which doesn't apply to most aviation shots!), but should get more keepers due to better AF, switches etc. Will you be on the NW side of the runway?

A good day out at a now-standard format Warbirds Open Day. Weather varied from just barely spitting to some mid-level cloud, so it got fairly warm at times. Chatted with Colin (Kereru), saw gavin C go by in the back of a couple of Harvards. Just starting to wade through a ridiculous amount of (mainly blurry) photos but let me start by summing my impression of the day with one word.... More to come....

Was a great day overall. I was helping out at the AAC stand so unfortunately I didn't get a chance to take any photos this time.

Great stuff. More please for those of us who could not go.
Was anything out of the ordinary flying, such as the Venom maybe? (I know it's based at Ohakea, just wondering if it ventured up for the day)

You lucky sod, I have my eye on one of those - what were your first impressions? Unfortunately I was stuck at the (boys) cricket, otherwise you would have been welcome to try out my 70-300 VR on it.
Cheers, Chris.

Are you on a waiting list, Colin said Progear's is 5 long. Auto-focus noticeably better than my D80 (surprise!!), hunts much less at max zoom. Controls aren't too much of a jump, but I haven't figured out how to show the 3 colour histograms yet.

Excellent photos everyone I was only there long enough to see the 12:30 display but managed to get quite a few shots during it - hooray for 12GB worth of memory cards and a 1% hit ratio I've put some shots up on my Facebook page, hopefully the album can be publicly accessed via this link... www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=244957&id=756702583&l=3def03517eCheers, Stu - a.k.a. Helen Keller Photographic Services. p.s. ignore the first few airliner photos - they were taken at Ruapuna.

Now I know why ZK-DAK and a Harvard were flying in close formation over downtown Auckland just before lunchtime yesterday.
