After much campaigning, lead by Reg Wellington, a Pacific veteran, it seems the Government is at last recognising the Pacific veterans with a sponsored tour to New Caledonia to commemorate the end of the war. I got this message from Pacific vet Wally Ingham today:
"The big news is that PM Helen Clark has released a press statement advising that the Government will be sending a delegation to New Caladonia and the Solomons Isles to commorate the 60th aniverary of the signing of the Japanese surender in September 1945. The party will comprise the Gov. delegation, a Maori cerimonial group,RNZAF honour guard ,and 80 vetarans flying in a Boeing 757. date will be 12th to 16th August inclusive A ballot will be arranged by the NZ vetrans affairs details will be advised via the main papers probably afer Anzac day hope I get to go best regards Wally Ingham"
