Note the mountain of bagged fert at the Te Wera strip,no doubt 180 pounders, when" men were men " but wore out quicker.

Great to see! Still got the Associated Farmers script on the cowls.
Very sad she's not here though. There was a bit of a movement formed to keep her in the Wairarapa but it fizzled.

I remember we had one parked at NZAIL on a couple of occasions in the late 1960's or early 70's while the engine was being overhauled in our engine shop. The owner was Charlie Hayward. I do not remember the company name or a/c rego, but the aircraft was a rather bilious green colour. I think it was based in Hawera. I remember Charlie was a smoker and one day he had driven up to check progress on his engine but come time to drive back, he had little fuel in his vehicle but still some in the parked-up Agricola. He filled a 20 litre can from the aircraft fuel drain and proceeded to decant it into his car tank (using a funnel). During this last operation he was smoking, took the fag out of his mouth and nonchalantly held the glowing cigarette in his lower hand at the bottom of the fuel can as he tilted and drained the contents into the car. I called out to him "Charlie, your cigarette!" but he just said "Yeah I know, but its OK at this distance" ..... and carried on without incident (to my consternation). He may be still alive today.

Look at the aircraft register and search for Kairanga Aviation Ltd.

Hallett Griffin is an ag pilot with a passion for older ag aircraft. His collection comprises of Beaver ZK-BDI, still working I believe, a Transland AG-2, an Edgar Percival EP 9, a turbine Zlin and now the Agricola plus all spares which I understand are sufficient to rebuild the prototype ZK-BMI which never came to this country.

He also has a few much older basket cases tucked away.
The EP9 is, I understand, under repair at this time but will return to airworthy.
Hallett is a low-profile hero of heritage aviation.

I had heard whispers of this, so it's great to see it in public! As soon as thomarse posted it was for sale I thought of Hallett. Superb!
Dave - agreed! I mentioned a Beaver handling display to a UK ex-pat mate of mine, who didn't think much of it. But from my point-of view, seeing Hallett and the Fieldair/ECAS Beaver together makes for a great show!

Thanks everyone.
I just looked him up and had a great chat with Mr Hallett. Great guy and very passionate about Austers in general! He is keen to be a part of us IAC in NZ so that is great She is being containerized as we speak.
So good to have people like him in our country and wanting to get involved!
Thanks again everyone, much appreciated Anthony

...and now the Agricola plus all spares which I understand are sufficient to rebuild the prototype ZK-BMI which never came to this country. so how does that work? Rebuild ZK-BMI which never came to NZ... As a Rangitikei/Manawatu fledgling and my Dad a pilot in the same location, Hallett Griffin was a name I heard often and witnessed often at work in the back-country of the central North Island. I concur re the Beaver displays (ahem...of all types) and salute Hallett for his contribution. "Well done, that man"!

Hi Peter, had forgotten about the Travel Air.
Johnnyfalcon, The prototype Agricola was first registered G-25-3 but later re-registered ZK-BMI in anticipation of its sale to New Zealand. However as B8 sales bombed spectacularly this did not proceed and it was demonstrated in the UK and Holland wearing the ZK markings. I read many years ago where it was damaged in Holland and returned to Rearsby where it was stored until sold to Cliff Baker who also purchased ZK-BXO and all spares which had been part of AFAW inventory. In correspondence from Cliff about a decade or so ago he indicated he planned to restore the prototype and, as it is now owned by Hallett, I expected the restoration may proceed here.
