Hi there Can anyone tell me if the Te Papa Tiggy has registration letters on its upper wing? If so where? Looking at this as another printed kit. Thanks in advance.

I have been informed that the registration letters only exist on the fuselage...so the model is correct..

Would it have had a registration on the top of the wings when Bill Kain owned it?

It should, have as he had it 1959-1966.Rego's on top and below the wing were mandatory until at least the late '60's'ish.No doubt someone can provide the date when they were only required on the fuselage.

Thanks for this Guys, you are disciple's of the obscure. Now...Any comments on the accuracy of the Red color used on the Te Papa Tiger?, which seemed to have more black in the mix than the image depicted? (Notwithstanding the probable photoshop adjustments that have taken place in the image above.)
Anyone who has ever been involved with a woman buying lipstick, will attest to the vast range of reds...

As far as I am aware the aircraft hasnt been restored / repainted since leaving James Aviation care. For a long time it was in the rafters of the old James Hangar (PACs main hangar now) as Aussie James was keen to have it preserved in its original state. I think it only had a fairly basic tidy up before museum service. I saw it the other day during a frustrating visit to Te Papa (The problem with over reliance on interactive exhibits is when all the kids want to play with them, no-one else can actually get anything from them - but thats another story!) and it certainly appeared to have the original, aged surface finish. It is however lit by theatrical lighting, which shifts colours a lot.

Bruce, that is Ossie James, as in Oswald. He's a kiwi!! Here are two shots that I have posted previously from my late Aunty's collection showing ZK-AJO taken at Rukuhia, Hamilton in - according to the photo edge on these polaroid snaps - January 1967.

I spy the wing tip of another interesting aircraft in your second photo Dave. Do you have any other photos of Josephine?

Would be either Rukuhia or MoTAT? As at Rukuhia March 1966:

Fantastic shot of josephine, were is this photo taken? Rukuhia at the back of James Aviation.I hav'nt put a date on my slide but I think it would have been late 1967.It is certainly not in the same condition as in Peters photos.
