Hi all
Very quick, just wondering if anyone had any pics of this Eastland machine? (happy birthday Peter!)
Or, in fact, the other Eastland Fletchers? DLQ, DMU, any others?

Are you just after photos of the aircraft, or are you specifically wanting them in East Coast operators colours?

Just after shots of CBG, preferably in Eastland colours.

Totally useless information but I had a ride in CBG on Anzac day 1979 when James Aviaton was operating it.The pilot didn't want to start topdressing before midday in case he upset any of the local old soldiers,so I got a quick spin around the farm in CBG.

Murray Hargreaves, flying DBZ while his usual mount EGH was in the workshop.Whangarei around 1980. DBZ subsequently went to Australia and I think Peter Plew was killed in when it crashed.

The only Fu24 I have in what seems to be Eastland colours - Parkes/Dunbar Partnership, Dannevirke - is ZK-EML at Dannevirke 1998 I have ZK-CBG with James Aviation at Dannevirke 26Nov79 - this would have been prior to its sale locally in 1984 or in earlier colours with Advance Aviation Onerahi 17March1963 ZK-DLQ with Manawatu ATD Co.Ltd at Masterton 30June1976 ZK-DMU Cookson Airspread at Wairoa 5September1981 I also have ZK-DHD listed as with Parkes/Eastland Contractors from 1996 after being rebuilt from its 1992 prang. Seen in an earlier life with Airwork at Amberley 19March1978

Thanks Peter! Interesting to see EML - now flying with a Walter up front!
I ask about CBG because locally there's an old fuselage and wing out to pasture, painted in a white scheme with red and blue trim, and EASTLAND in curly script along the fuse, and by process of elimination I thought it must be CBG...

Interesting, thankyou PG! Any photos of DZF guys? Would love to ID the one here, one of the blokes involved in bringing it over from Palmerston North said that CBG sounded familiar...

Another difference would be CBG should have the small fuselage cargo door, where as DZF being an export Fletcher should have the big cargo door. Some of the older Fletchers also had a serial number on a plate just infront of the elevator on the fuselage.CBG would have 87 on it.

You can seen the constructors plate just forward of the tailplane on the photo of ZK-EML above. However, many (most? all?) of the James Fletchers had the plate absent, as fuselages were sort of swapped around - ahem!

EXACTLY the same script as on the fuselage hulk here! Thanks Peter! PG, I'm going out today to have a close look at what's there, and as I lay in bed this morning I wondered if it still had the data plate. This one does have the small door, so CBG is looking to be the favourite. Will post pics later today

Went out to take a more detailed look at the fuselage and wing, took a handful of pics before the battery died on the camera . IDENTITY CONFIRMED! The data plate is missing - and I can't see if it was mounted at all - but a plate under the canopy rail confirms that this bird is indeed CBG. Would love to see at least one photo of CBG INTACT wearing this scheme. According to my oracle www.dave.wise.btinternet.co.uk/DWFletcher.htm, her is story is thus: "87 FU24-950M 9/61 ZK-CBG (Assembled JAL) to 260hp 3/65 to 300hp 5/68 to 950M 7/72 wfu Palmerston North ?/96 cx 9/98" She still has her rudder pedals in, marked FAC - Fletcher Aviation Company!!! WOW!

She was one of the last Fletcher built FU24s,the first NZ one was CRF. Looks like the poor old girls flying days are behind her..

There's a fair bit of skin corrosion - like you see around the rego plate - but a lot better than I dreaded, considering how close she is to a beach! There;s still a lot there - aforementioned pedals, windscreen, control cable pulleys, seatbelt, even the rudder cables! Certainly not beyond redemption...if the right person came along... Very cool to see the FAC logo. Thanks for the info, PG! You and I must be related

Why is it just dumped there? Is this a local tip? I note it looks like someone's dumped an old truck in the scrub too, are there other wrecks dumped there? Sad to see the aircraft rotting away like that.
