I had a quick browse around this morning, just that truck and a sheep trailer. Large pile of pallets and other rubbish nearby, too. This is *just* outside the airport boundary fence. It was originally nearer the runway, with a cabin aircraft fuse of some sort also (Piper perhaps?), and several years ago was near Hill Country Helicopters' hangar. I asked someone from WAW about this fuse some time later, and he informed me it was destined for MOTAT... From what I was told by one of the WAW blokes who brought it over from Palmy, it was acquired after Eastland ceased operating around 1999. I imagine we would've salvaged any parts needed for our own fleet, and then it was put out to pasture. I THINK it was used for fire training, but it has no smoke damage or anything like that...thankfully! I'll make enquiries as to why exactly it's there tomorrow. Was hoping to find more Fletcher bits, but nothing there based on my very brief looksee.
Hows about some more pics?
This is the first time I've seen a Fletcher logo. Was a very cool surprise!
The mostly gutted cockpit. I have the left-hand instrument panel - saved from the company skip bin - and I've refitted it with switches and circuit breakers.
A view of the interior, this is looking aft through the cargo door, which opens very smoothly! The battery box is visible in the immediate foreground.
The wing. Was very pleased to see this is still with the fuselage.
Luckily the fuse is on some sort of jig/stand, so the belly skins will hopefully be in a pretty decent condition. The wing on the other hand may be lying on the ground, so I'm a bit worried about what the underside will look like...however if its on blocks, wood etc it should be ok.
