Gotta love the 500! Looks like a very nice example. Local?
And that is a superb shot of the fantail! Saved for desktop!

The machine belongs to Ridge Air Limited and they are based at Omaka. We are going to do some Air 2 Airs when we get around to it so that should be fun.
A pilot I spoke to reckons the 500 is the the Porsche of helicopters so not a bad description.

Great photos, Gavin. Thanks for posting. Love the T-tailed 500s - but I don't get to see many of them on this side of the Tasman.

They say a fantail is a sign of snow to come. Greats shots Gavin,(all your shots are great) looks like he forgot to put the nozzles on the spray booms. Can i ask what settings you use as there's no way mine come out like that.

Hi There, The nozzles were on and working well and in some of the photos it looks like the spray was pouring out but it wasnt, he flew over enough times so I could definately tell.
When it comes to helicopters they are a challenge and it has taken what seems like an eternity to get it right as its a fine line between still and moving blades which is followed by blurry photos. I normally use a shutter speed no higher than 160, lower is possible but it is harder if the helicopter is travelling as fast as this 500 was.
Apart from that, good panning is the only other technique I try and use. Doesnt always work but most of the time the photos come out ok.

I saw in the weekend that the photo you posted a few months ago beside the spitfire at the roundabout to Christchurch Airport got you keen enough to go ahead and get a new Ford then..

Yip it was due to the Spitfire that I bought it Test drove that one last year and picked mine up at the start of this year

Hi Andrew, good to hear from you. Mate I thought it was Steinlager and as I had a head ache the next day I will blame that. In fact I had a vehicle to dive in and out of. Can you flick me your email address as I have a new computer and cant find yours now. I may need a Citabria driver in a few weeks time.
