The new version of Dambusters is sill listed on IMDb as a 2010 release. www.imdb.com/title/tt0855775/Must be coming out within the next five weeks then. Anyone heard anything? Looking at Sir Peter's schedule for the next few years with the bloody hobbit films, halo and tin tin, he seems to be going in for kids films rather than proper films now. So is Dambusters actually ever going to happen? It's not even listed on his IMDb page.

What a can of worms Dave. We were involved with the team over a few days in 2008 when the crew photographed the MOTAT Lanc in detail. As well as Peter Jackson , Gene de Marco plus the proposed Director Christain Rivers. Really nice genuine people all of them and very good to the Vets, we still all have King Kong signed statues !!! At Weta in 2009 signing off the NZBCA bronze , all the dam models were complete and ready for filming. On the odd time I have talked with P Jacksons PA Matt all has been quiet as we do want a Lanc cockpit for a hands on MOTAT exhibit. Enough to say that dispite the 13 mockups made in China the rumours say the the Director left because of the delays, the script guy likewise and the current one Stephen Fry is under fire because of insisting the code word NIGGER is changed to Trigger !! He also put in lots of FFF words which the aircrews said just did not happen and if one slipped out they were told heh, heh thats a bit rough !! etc . Also Wingnut Films had booked the Canadian Lanc to go to England for flying shots with the Memorial Flight and on the ground with East Kirbys model but that was canned. So plenty of hearsay but no real facts, perhaps an insider can enlighten us .

Hmm. Oh dear.
Regarding the languge issues, it is easily solved, do two versions of the scenes where they are an issue. Put in Trigger and the F-words for the Yanks, and put in Nigger and "dash it all" or "Bother" for the anoracs. Make both tracks available on the DVD as options, and problem solved (just like the 12th Man's tapes that had the whole track on one side with swearing in, and the other side with them all blanked for the wowsers.)

A couple of points there Dave, you are assuming that the alterations that Steven Fry is reported as wanting are for the benefit of the "yanks"? What are the grounds for that assumption? Secondly you seem dismissive of those who would prefer it to be historically correct? Does the pursuit of accuracy make them "wowsers"? BTW the correct spelling is anorak (not anorac, it's an innuit word)

First of all, it seems to be Hollywood officials who want the dpg's name changed. They are, I believe, Americans. Secondly, the historical accuracy for me is paramount. The original film is great and a true classic, but not wholly accurate. This can be improved upon. There's nothing wrong with being an anorac (a new word I have coined for historical accuracy buff and all round jolly good chap) ThirdlyI meant the wowsers to be people who cannot abide listening to The 12th Man in is pure original form and prefer to have it with dozens of blanks throughout, ruining the flow of the original. I was not referring to Dambusters fans as wowsers. It seems odd to me that the makers of the album even did this, they don't like the "bad" words but they stil want to hear the irreverant comedy with half it's impact lost. The very thought that Richie Benaud would swear like that in the commentary box when not on air is part of the irreverent comedy as the real man is so straight laced.

Didnt Tom Cruise spend quite a bit of time in Wellington lately, I think I read he went up to Hood aerodrome to see the mockups, photo anyone??. Perhaps he is the new Guy Gibson

Do Hobbits wear annoraques? Or are they only for formal occasions?

I certainly hope they do make this film, there is an excellent clip on Utube of a Lanc being started (NX611 Just Jane) which most here have probably seen. Also the footage of flying over the dams from in cockpit which is amazing, as far as drama goes I can not think of anything more edge of the seat than that, Tom Cruise as Guy Gibson, that would work I think. Funny how shows such as deadwood etc have some of the spikiest language ever uttered and the yet the perception is that they wont (the US) stand for it.
