All communications to Spence family, c/- Pellows PO Box 4449, Hamilton 3247. Warren was a keen gliding man who took up the sport in Marlborough in the mid 1950s. In a special Auckland Gliding Club newsletter on his death the following was reported, in part. "Warren was regarded as humble, dedicated and very smart. He was well-respected in the engineering and maintenance world of Air New Zealand. He had an interesting background in aviation, having worked in the UK for BAC at the time of the loss of the BAC1-11 prototype due to a deep stall, where the airflow over the wing blanketed the tailplane, making it unrecoverable (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1963_BAC_One-Eleven_test_crash). The UK CAA rules on stick pushers were introduced at this time, with the FAA permitting a different approach on the 737 MCAS system, which has been noted by some commentators. Warren is typical of many in the gliding world: people generous with their time and knowledge, seeking no reward other than seeing the next generation of pilots take to the air. The gliding world would not function without such people: we are lucky to have people like Warren active in our club today".

re Keith G Brown OStJ 814657 RNZAF
Keith was a founding member of the Ferrymead Railway and active there until recently.
He was also author of "Working with wood" the story of his life and times at Addington Railway Workshops.
He told me quite a bit about his time in the RNZAF at Ohakea which was in the age of the mossies and he had some exciting times manning the observation tower out at the range during rocket firing exercises. Sadly probably some great stories there that have gone unrecorded.

Loved husband of the late Lillian and current partner of Sonya Craig. Loving father of John (New Zealand), Donna, Alison, and Jillian (all Australia). RIP Andy. He was one of the last, if not the last, of the original team that worked for James Aviation on the engineering side, and as a draughtsman, working on the design of the first DC3 topdresser ZK-AZL. I had the pleasure to meet and interview Andy very recently to ensure his memories were recorded.

A W C Read went to Canada as a trainee W/Opr A/G, graduated as Sgt 28/2/44, possible he saw service with RAF in late 44 or 1945, rtd to NZ 27/1/46. David D
Have since found that this man did in fact become operational with Bomber Command, with 166 Sqdn (Lancasters) at end of January 1945, from Kirmington. Furthermore, he returned to UK in October 1947 to become a member of the RAF until November 1950, being one of the few New Zealand Signallers to serve with that force. Unfortunately no details of his RAF service known. On return to NZ he immediately secured another engagement with RNZAF and in November 1954 was commissioned in A&S (SD) Branch, then posted to Reserve. His post-war RNZAF number (from Nov 1950) was 133482.
