Right then, whose going? I think it will be a good opportunity to practice with my new camera (so look forward to half the aircraft missing, out of focus and of course either over or under-exposed ;D)

pity there won't be an A109 there.....
Ya reckon there's enough grass for the checkers to land etc

Yeah there is heaps of room for them to land but I don't know if they will or not. I won't be there unfortunately guys, I'm heading south on Saturday.

I would be guessing that the checkers will base out of CIA. Something to do with landing royalties (and the fact that there are a fair few piles of dirt everywhere)

On my way from work and heard (but couldn't see) the Red Checkers snarl over head. Hope the weather behaves for me and brother Obiwan on Sunday.

Something to do with landing royalties (and the fact that there are a fair few piles of dirt everywhere) I was meaning there is enough Defence owned real estate for them to operate from (yes the rest of the airfield is definately unuseable now!). They reckon they could get the DC-3 and even a Herc in there on the grass at a stretch!

Was going to head down on Sunday but unable to now. Flew alongside the Checkers today as they headed south, always a fantastic experience and special thanks to the RNZAF for making the flight possible.

don't forget to have a few big milkshakes first On that topic, I remember when I was in the ATC we were awarded a joyride in an Airtourer as a reward for polishing NZ3551. One guy had a hamburger and a milkshake before going up. At the top of a loop.... I'm sure you can fill in the gap ;D

There's enough room for a 700m norwest/soueast vector, but the Museum is using a large portion of the grass to the East/nor East of the museum as public car parking which severely reduces the distance avail.
Thought I saw a P3 parked on Deep Freeze yesterday, wondered if that was here for the display.
Huey was practicing over Wigram this afternoon approx. 1400hrs.
Checkers are doing/have done a display today over Southshore/Brighton Beach for the conclusion of the Speights Coast to Coast.
I'll be there with the Canterbury Gliding Club, opposite 3 hangar I believe, with Club glider LS4 ZK-GCC, which Richie McCaws young cousin Alex, completed a 1000km flight in December.

Obiwan and myself have just got back from the show. The Red Checkers didn't perform for the morning slot due to low cloud so fingers crossed for the afternoon. Looks like a good turn out. Highlight for me was the P40 Kittyhawk. Man she looks fantastic. And I bumped into Barf and we had an interesting natter about all things Museum. I had fun with the camera(kicked myself for only having the zoom lens and not the short one as well!) so will post some shots shortly. Peter Mac (aeromedia) was the commentator and did a great job, those who were at Classic Fighters2009 will remember him!

Thanks for posting those images, Baz.
Doesn't look like the Museum got a very big crowd for the event, which is a bit of a shame.

Thanks for posting those images, Baz. Doesn't look like the Museum got a very big crowd for the event, which is a bit of a shame. Not sure but don't go by my photos as the crowd got a lot bigger once the Iroquois started up and flew its display. Weather might have put some off but it wasn't cold (well by Christchurch standards it wasn't ha ha) Oh and I now own an Avenger albeit in 1/48th scale. A Italia TBF-1/TBM-1 with decals for RNZAF NZ2509. Hmmmm might make that 9 a 4 heh heh heh
